"While we appreciate all the interest in our long-range plans for the future, we can confirm that there will be no talk of new Xbox hardware at E3 or anytime soon. For us, 2012 is all about Xbox 360-and it's the best year ever for Xbox 360. The console is coming off its biggest year ever-a year in which Xbox outsold all other consoles worldwide. Xbox 360 didn't just outsell other consoles, it also outsold all other TV-connected devices like DVD players, as well as digital media receivers and home theatre systems. And in our seventh year, we sold more consoles than in any other year-defying convention.

This year, we will build on that Xbox 360 momentum. With "Halo 4," "Forza Horizon," "Fable: The Journey," and other great Kinect games on the way, our 2012 Xbox lineup is our strongest ever. This year, we will deliver more TV, music, and movie experiences for Xbox 360-as we'll make it even easier to find and control your all entertainment. And this year, Xbox games, music, and video are coming to Windows 8 so people can enjoy their Xbox entertainment wherever they go."

E3 2013 then for Fall 2013 release.

Makes sense.

If they announce it now, people will tend to abandon the 360 and wait till next year for the new Xbox to come out. Wouldn't make good business sense. If they going to announce it, then it should come out the very same year.

I think Nintendo suffered from announcing the Wii U very early.

Honestly? Not particularly surprising: they're going to wait and see how much damage the Wii U does. If it does well, they're going to carry on with their plan to release a slightly better Xbox that comes with a Kinect 2 for $200, if not they'll probably go back to the drawing board.

Who would buy a machine that's only slightly better after 7 years?

It looks like 8 years in reality, I remember some fools saying that MS would dump the 360 as quickly as they did the original Xbox

I wonder what sort of installed base Wii U will manage in that 12 month window? 5 million, 10 million?

According to NPD Group data provided to me, the Xbox 360 is still averaging $299 per system at retail and the PlayStation 3 about $272. The Wii, which isn't selling well, is averaging $147, while the Nintendo DS and 3DS together are averaging about $166

That is why Nextbox isn't being shown anytime soon, still getting $299 a pop 7 years on.

Also, there'd be no need to put post release DLC on the disc which obviously bloats file size.

They shouldn't bloody do that anyway.

Locking something on the disk for release is just disgraceful.

If it's on the disk, it means it was on there when the game went for certification right? Then they have no right to lock content from a disk you paid for so you can pay later.

Looking forward to the Wii U but Kinect isn't doing anything for me and I'm not at all interested in Vita until Killzone.

agreed on Kinect Rik. Some hybrid stuff like in ME3 works well but overall i'm hoping they focus less on it.

Not interested in WiiU after Wii was not for me at all. So no new consoles until nextps or nextbox.

Cheap year again. I can only see me getting a couple more games.

Looking forward to Halo 4, Bioshock Infinite, Far Cry 3 and Borderlands 2.

Going to try and save some money for Wii U though, hopefully Nintendo have learned the lessons from 3DS and will have a decent launch line up and a sensible price on day one.

Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) will release the next version of its Xbox console in 2013 at the earliest, as the company squeezes at least one more year of sales out of its current model, said two people with knowledge of the matter.

The company may show the successor to its Xbox 360 at next year’s E3 conference in June 2013 and put it on sale that same year, said the people, who declined to be named because the plans are confidential

It was always going to be a 2013 release but it would have been nice to see something at this years E3 :(

How can they claim that line-up to be the "strongest ever" :?
They've got a Halo game but it's not developed by Bungie, they got a Forza game not developed by Turn 10, and lastly a Fable game that is on-rails and uses Kinect.

The year I first got a 360 had a way better lineup, there was probably a Halo or gears of war game, there was Dead Rising, there was Test Drive Unlimited, and there was Crackdown.

Steel Battalion has actually made me interested in Kinect.

It looks so insane and heaps of fun.

E3 is going to be gooseberry fool. Sure farcry etc will be interesting, but no where near enough to make the expo worth while. Microsoft should tease.

Don't be so negative. At this year's Microsoft E3 conference we will see:

* 10 minutes of a pretend Call of Duty Black Ops 2 playthrough when really it is video footage with a geeky guy faking it.

* 10 minutes video footage of a Tomb Raider playthrough that proves the game is an 'Uncharted killer.'

* 5 minutes of 1 nerd in a suit cracking a rehearsed and unfunny joke to a fat nerd holding a controller and no one in the audience laughing. NO ONE.

* 10 minutes of Fable: the Journey proving what a great open-world Kinect game it is as long as you stick to the wagon tracks.

* 20 minutes of Kinect kids games with shitty little stage school actors. 1 white boy, 1 mixed raced girl. Overacting the fun they feel. Maybe pretending they are flying.

* 15 minutes TV services. ESPN and some other bollocks that we won't get here.

* 20 minutes of Kinect gooseberry fool for grown-ups. Featuring the delayed Minecraft and Ghost Recon. Maybe the Gears of War Kinect title complete with dancing mini-games. -Save the universe by outdancing the Horde.

* 10 minutes of Halo 4. Made better with Kinect controls. Shout swear words at your multiplayer opponents without needing a headset.

What's not to like?

oh it looks like it'll definitely have a very strong line-up. I'm just not into another machine that's a bit better than current gen again. I'll wait for the powerful machines and stick to the PC which is already way past that. As i'm not into their first party it makes it a pointless purchase (for me).

One would hope. I think Nintendo were definitely humbled by the 3DS's slow start, so they definitely won't want a repeat of that.

Everything points to a hell of a strong third party this time too, so they have learned that from the Wii as well. It should start and stay that way at least until the next gen of machines are well established.

How on Earth do you spin this into an Xbox vs PS3/Wii argument?! They are all silly. But as 1cmanny1 was talking about the MS conference I shared my premonition for that. Mark my words its all coming true. My only question is whether CoD will open the conference or appear soon after. I'm thinking soon after.
