Have they said anything at all about Splinter Cell 3DS? From what I gather, neither that or Rayman 3D have been shown off for previews. Not a good sign at all.

Rayman 3D is a port of the Dreamcast version but with 3D and widescreen aspect ratio. Not much else is known other than it uses the slider and the original game was decent enough. Splinter Cell has Conviction style presentation for missions with the words on walls. That's all they know though.

I get what they say about Pilotwings being a great way to show off the new consoles 3D but to me a 75% rated game is NOT a "Must Buy"

Love the honesty over SSF4, I have a superior version already so not getting this. The only thing I am looking forward to on the 25th is the 3DS camera/

From what I played, it's much, much more than a 75% game. My ability to form my own opinions regardless of review scores means I shall definitely be buying it.

How much of it did you play?
For all we know the review might well say that it plays well but then marks it down for lacking content or something like that.

They said they finished it near to 100% in under two hours. Had a few more items to find and some better ranks to obtain.

I don't believe them.

Whole 3DS section sounds kind of pointless to me.

Well thats disappointing. I know its a common enough thing that console launch games are lacking in content but if Nintendo do want to demonstrate a high value of game software like Iwata said during GDC I don't think releasing a €40 game that can be beat in a few hours is the right way of showing that.

If you're only playing for the missions and collectables, sure. But let's face it, we all spent more time in Birdman mode than doing missions in 64, and the same will hold true for Free Flight Mode in Resort.

I read other reviews that didn't mention it.

I mean its a high score/trial run game, so its not going to be massively long on a straight run through.

Are the missions timed? Is it possible they've just added up those results on all the missions to get that 2 hour time or something.

Looking at how much left they had to do for 100% I'd say it looks to be a 3 hour game if there hour and forty five minutes is accurate for completing all the missions and most of the collectables but not to full ranks. It still looks like great fun, just not great value. The game also seems lacking in features with only one island, no online leaderboards, streetpass or spotpass, no skydiving, no birdman, no cannon, no multiplayer.

Its not a 3 hour game. Thats a nonsense way of describing the length of a game like that.

You might as well describe Rez as a 1 and a half hour game, it doesn't mean anything.

It should be a pack in or a cheaper downloadable game. While you can replay it, 30-40 quid is terrible value for such a short length to clear all the games objectives. Rez cost me five quid to download thereabouts.

Way to completely miss the whole point of the game.

I don't believe they did in anything like that time frame.

EDIT - Theres 20-30 hours play time in Rez by the way.

What is the point of the whole game? The free roam mode is timed too and that's where all the collectables hide. To me the game seems to be a set of challenges and collecting. You can't share these high scores with friends, online or even across save files on the same cart so it doesn't seem to promote getting those best scores and the free roam is restricted to a time limit.

Have you played either of the previous Pilotwings games?

I'd ask whether Monster Games played either Pilotwings games. Yes, THOSE games came alive outside the missions, but this Pilotwings places an entirely arbitrary time limit on free flight mode. By collecting tokens you can boost it from two minutes to four minutes (or thereabouts). A whole four minutes! That's not even enough time to do a circuit of the island.

I didn't write the review, but I did play through it and come to exactly the same conclusions as Kittsy. It's a tragic shame that something that handles so well and looks so lovely should be over in a casual afternoon's play. It remains the finest 3D showcase (of the launch games), earning it that 'must buy' tag, but this is Nintendo at their laziest. It feels like one tiny part of Wii Sports Resort, resold for £35. Not cool.

Doubt our time all you want, we took the overall flight time from the detailed in-game statistics screen.
