So it's like saying......

NGP - Blinding people with amazing graphics but hiding the fact that there will be no games.

3DS - Gameplay first and foremost.

We've been down this road before have we not?

The idea that this suddenly makes the 3DS not very powerful is utterly ridiculous.

Neither until they launch some decent games for them.

It needed to be rewritten and Mario 64 was slightly less technically challenging. Despite the general graphical overhall of Mario 64DS, there were occasional sections where the view distance was notably smaller than the N64 original.

Not really, I'm a huge Nintendo fanboy and the NGP has really grabbed my attention.

I'm afraid Commodore haven't released a platform in a good long while.

How much more powerful is the ngp than the 3ds? Twice? Thrice?

These questions are impossible to answer. How exactly do you define a computer's power? There are so many different factors it's impossible to reach any real concensus.

Judging purely on screens I'd say about 160% of the 3DS's power, but that's just a wild guess.

I've somehow completely managed to ignore everything about the NGP, and assumed this thread title was about the Neo Geo Pocket.

But now I've caught up, I'll go for the 3DS.

3DS - because it offers something new and as someone with no real need to play games on-the-go the NGP would have nothing more to offer than my laptop and 360 currently do. That's not to say that the NGP isn't an impressive piece of hardware, but like the iPad I think it's only really aimed at gadget aficionados or people with money to burn.

Well, in how many different areas does the ngp outperform the 3ds? I'm a bit thick when it comes to working these things out, but there must be a comparison somewhere, surely?

The emphasis on the NGP's power in the press conference leads me to believe that Sony hasn't really learnt from its mistakes with the PSP. The DS brought something new to the table last time (dual screens, stylus control) and if it succeeds, could do so again with 3D. The NGP on the other hand is a more powerful PSP
