Bandai Namco announced today that Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom, the follow up to Level-5 and Studio Ghibli's critically acclaimed JRPG we ourselves called "a love letter to fans" will find its way to the PC digitally later this year.

In addition, Bandai Namco has confirmed that Ni No Kuni II will be getting a simultaneous worldwide release, so English speakers won't have to wait quite as long as they did for Ni Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. Fans of the previous game may recall that Ni No Kuni didn't released January 2013—more than a year after the original release.

Looks so gorgeous. Can't believe it's getting a simultaneous worldwide release. That's gotta be a record for a Level 5 game.

Have the original on my ps3 via a psn store sale, but didn't get into it. My only reservation is that combat system - i wish we had an option for more direct controls like zelda.

I quite liked the combat. Making it a third party action system wouldn't have quite been the same. It's not a Zelda-type game so that type of system wouldn't have worked really. If anything, the combat could be too fast and hectic at times, and it was a bit jarring to have this mesh with the turn-based RPG mechanics lying underneath. The fast paced meant grinding was pretty enjoyable though.h

Like most though, I really liked Ni No Kuni for the first ten hours. It looked great and it hooked me in.

After the first third or so, some of the shine wore off. It became just another JRPG and was actually quite by the numbers. The towns and NPCs were all quite dead behind the eyes, and it depended on fetch quests too much for any side content.

Still, I ploughed quite a few hours into it and will probably get the sequel at some point.

Once again, everyone wants to release their games during the same few weeks at the end of the year

I'll get it in a sale :P

In contradiction to my signature, i'm tempted to start preordering dead-cert games like this, (to me) Forza and Shadow of War over the next few months; spreading the cost until then.

I wish there were more JRPGs (that aren't shitty RPG maker wank) with turn based combat, I neither like nor can actually play ones with real time combat and it has essentially ruined the genre for me.

:slol: 2017 Trelliz was so naive and optimistic :fp:

Anywho, I bought this on ps4 from shopto for £40ish, holding off on the season pass until we have a bit more info. Everything I've seen for this looks great; the combat has vastly changed and improved by going for action combat rather than pseudo-pokemon. The kingdom-building stuff looks straightforward and fun, like a massive version of the villa from Assassin's Creed 2. Hopefully the story will have that mixture of charm, whimsy and emotional gut-punches the first does, even if it (appears to) no longer have the real world connections which made it all the more fantastical. The only downside is i'm not playing any of the other big games I have in my backlog (AC Origins, Witcher 3, HZD) because I know they'll get benched for this come friday.

I need this game in my veins. I sadly never got round to playing the first which remains a great sin of mine. But after seeing the combat of this game I was beyond sold. Looks so damn fun. But being occupied by MH Worlds will make it a struggle to balance playing this. Might have to hold out buying for now which pains me to say.

HHhnnngngnggngngngnngggggg

Anyone know what the deal is on the international release in terms of subs and dubs?

I know that the english release had the option of Jap dub with Eng subs, and if that's possible on the Jap release then I'd just wait until I got to Tokyo next month and pick it up there.

The game looks great and there are a ton of glowing reviews. I wanted to play the first one but have only seen two Studio Ghibli films so I felt I had to see a few more of the movies to appreciate it. Is this a standalone game or does it continue with the same story or characters from the first game?

Its set in the same fantasy world but from what i've seen there are no recurring characters. I expect there will be a couple of slight nods to past events in npc dialogue or something, but nothing game-breaking.
