Loved the strawberry float out of the first one, but my jrpg days are over and i'm not getting a ps4 just for it. Also the first game wrapped up in a beautifully studio ghibli way, so is a sequel necessary?

It's not a direct sequel, is it? I'm assuming it's the same world but with totally new main cast and story.

Don't worry, it's only getting a PS4 console debut so it's almost certainly going to be released on PC.

Overjoyed! I adored the original. One of few games I bothered to Platinum. I had assumed, from all the doom and gloom from the armchair industry experts at GAF, that a sequel would be extremely unlikely as it had apparently performed poorly. I guess it goes to show, you cannot judge just what expectations publishers have. I must admit, I did find the trailer a bit more twee than the original. However, I think that could just be the English voice acting. I played the original in Japanese, and hope that option will be there for this sequel too.

PostRe: Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom - "...will introduce a new system focused on creating a kingdom" -Level-5 CEO

Ni no Kuni II has a kingdom creation system

We haven’t heard much about Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom since it was first announced for PlayStation 4 at PlayStation Experience 2015, but Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino confirmed at least one new tidbit during a recent interview with Vandal.net: it will have a kingdom creation system.

“There will be many new features,” Hino said. “From the fact alone that we moved from PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4, it will not be a simple RPG, and will introduce a new system focused on creating a kingdom. So yes, there will be many differences.”

Vandal also asked Hino about whether Level-5 plans to develop games for Nintendo’s newly unveiled Switch platform.

Hino responded, “We plan to make games for Nintendo Switch, but I think it’s very important to find out the best way to get the most out of the console. For that reason, we won’t have any titles at launch, but we’ll work with it as soon as we figure out how to take advantage of it.”

Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is in development for PlayStation 4. A release window has yet to be announced.

Interesting. Spiritual Dark Cloud successor? Playing Dragon Quest Builders recently, and it felt like a natural evolution of that system. Can't wait to see more.

What is it with Level 5 and town building? They started it in Dark Cloud/Chronicle continued it in White Knight Chronicles and now they're putting it into Ni No Kuni. It put me off the other two franchises so I'd actually rather they left it out here but I loved the first game so who knows maybe I'll like this too.

I genuinely can't even remember it in WKC. I assume it wasn't obligatory.

I think the only one of their games I have played was NnK, so this kingdom building thing will be totally new to me. woot?

I'm assuming they weren't overly deep?

Nah, not too deep at all I'm just not overly keen on that sort of thing.

It was online and full (like, /full/) of microtransactions. Want to add a pot to your town? Hey buy it with real money! :( But yes it was entirely optional.

The town building in Dark Chronicle is brilliant though so this sounds good to me.

Agree on the similarities between DQB and Dark Chronicle, thanks to the people moving in and giving quests for building things in specific ways.

by Saint of Killers » Thu Jan 26, 2017 3:06 pm

In the world of Ni no Kuni II: REVENANT KINGDOM, players enter the kingdom of Ding Dong Dell, where cats, mice, and humans once lived in harmony. After a treacherous coup, Evan, the young boy king of Ding Dong Dell is banished from his kingdom. Ni no Kuni II: REVENANT KINGDOM recounts the story of this deposed king and his journey to build his own kingdom and unite the entire world.

Supporting Evan on his adventure are friends Roland, Tani, and beings known as Higgledies who come from the power of the hearts found within people, animals, and elements such as fire and wind. Only individuals with pure hearts can see the Higgledies. The Higgledies will aid Evan throughout his journey, helping him in battles, and letting him reach places he wouldn’t otherwise be able to access. Join Evan on his quest as he fights powerful monsters, face perilous dungeons, and rises to once again become a King!

In addition, Bandai Namco has confirmed that Ni No Kuni II will be getting a simultaneous worldwide release, so English speakers won't have to wait quite as long as they did for Ni Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. Fans of the previous game may recall that Ni No Kuni didn't released January 2013—more than a year after the original release.
