The combat looks far more fun than Dark Souls, it's just everything that pales in comparison so far.

The combat is definitely the best aspect of the game. Some of the enemies should be less boring due to their being based on mythological Japanese demons/deities, but I wouldn't expect to see anything Souls-esque.

PvP will be patched in, for free, some time after launch.

Fighting ninjas on water in NG2 was pretty much the of part where I thought about just binning the game.

Reading some previews on this today makes it sound promising, mind. Still very hesitant to trust Team Ninja but we shall see.

So, played the demo last night... It's a bit challenging to say the least! Was starting to get a feel for it before I headed to bed and can see how it could be rewarding; but feck, don't know if I have the patience to have to go through all the trash mobs from the beginning each time. Especially when said trash is as fecking punishing as it is.

Though, the sado-masochist in me will give it another chance later; might get on better now I know the mechanics.

Played this tonight and colour me suprised. Shame they had to start with a level with a hideous colour palette as it put me right off but once you're into the swing of things it really started to click with me. The boss at the end definitely scratched that itch of not wanting the game to beat me. The side mission boss gives a better sign of things to come to terms of pallet.

30fps mode though :dread:

Ninja Gaiden and Dark Soul fans should definitely give this a whirl

Apparently the 60fps Action Mode on PS4 Pro is better looking than the Movie Mode on regular PS4. I will give that a go first.

I actually really liked this, but strawberry float me, it is brutal. The combat seems pretty deep and I've barely scratched the surface, could well be a bit of a sleeper hit....?

Same here, liked it, but its pretty feckin unforgiving. Have too much on my games to play list at mo; but definitely tempted to pick it up when I've time to concentrate on it.

I played and tried both modes, definitely 60fps feels better. I played the tutorial then started the game killed a few people then walked into the lake (as you do) and had to restart from the beginning, so I quit.

Just found out this has co-op, something I've managed to miss entirely, great news for me, it's one of my favourite aspects of the souls games.

I hadn't heard about this until seeing it mentioned on the Dark Souls Reddit, and it piqued my interest. It was described as Souls-esque, had Japanese voice acting so I could pass it off as "studying", and it's historical period seems quite interesting, along with the riffs on Japanese mythology. Heck, I even bought the original NG on the Xbox after all the critical acclaim, but never played it, so it would absolve that sin somewhat.

But all this talk of unfair difficulty is a bit off-putting. For the vast majority of those games, the Souls avoid bullshitty unfairness and I always felt like I could make progress. I've never actually felt like giving up. With two Souls games still to start, despite being in the mood for that sort of game, I'm now tempted to just stick to From Software's output instead.

Will wait and see how high the frustrat-o-meter gets for others here before I buy. If any discs get broken, I'm out.

Though, I mean, I beat the Capra Demon and have a foreboding, extensive penile structure so maybe I shouldn't be worried anyway.

Reader Q&A's via PS EU Blog:

Soul-1 (DE): What was the experience like for the team to receive feedback from the alpha and beta tests and to work on the game according to the feedback?

We received overwhelming feedback from users that said that they really enjoyed playing the game. Having said that, there were some parts of the game which people felt were unreasonably difficult, because there are just simply too many challenging enemies and so we refined the artificial intelligence of the enemies and made the challenge something that players could be more accepting of.

Streak244 (EN): In the Beta, I thought fighting Muneshige Tachibana was definitely the highlight of the demo for me. I was wondering if we'll get to fight more famous Samurai as bosses in the game?

In short, absolutely.

Redmoss (EN): A lot of the footage I've seen occurs almost always at night-time. Will this be a running theme throughout the game or will there be missions that occur during the day?
It really depends on the stage, some stages are lighter, but then again one of the premises behind this game is that yokai have taken over Japan and so, in general , the settings are gonna be a little bit darker

Aerosixx (FR): Is there one or more bosses in the game you are particularly proud of?

We really put a lot of focus on the samurai vs samurai combat and, as I mentioned earlier, there will be other samurai that players will be able to fight, so that’s something I’m really excited about.

AiddonValentine (EN): How many Guardian Spirits will players acquire over the course of the game?

There will be 20 kinds of guardian spirits.

AiddonValentine (EN): Why did you decide to change William's ancestry from English to Irish?

We understand that the Irish have a culture of spirits and one of the premises behind William’s character is his ability to see yokai/ spiritual characters so that’s why we made him Irish

LuffyD59 (FR) & JDT979 (DE): Will we be able to play more characters other than William?

Once you clear the game we’re going to offer an ability that translates to being able to change the way you look and you’ll be able to transform to other characters.

Aerosixx (FR): Will the European version of the game offer Japanese dubbing?

The voiceover is the same globally. The story is about samurais meeting the western samurai so they’ll be speaking their respective languages.

JDT979 (DE): Could you give us any specific details about what each of the director’s roles look like and how Yosuke Hayashi and Fumihiko Yasuda work together?

As the studio head I’m not always able to be at the studio. So my responsibilities are more putting the team together. And Yasa-san’s responsibility is to kind of oversee the direction of the game, he’s the one who oversees the details. I really wanted him to be here as well but he’s so focused on making the game work he couldn’t.

Razielance1985 (EN): What if the revenant version of my character who's wearing deluxe ed. equipment is defeated by players who only have standard edition, will they be rewarded with deluxe edition equipment too?

There won’t be that kind of scenario. Having said that, there are going to be free things for all users. For instance, if you clear the demo, one of the prizes is a helmet so you’ll be able to pick that one up should you defeat him.

AiddonValentine (EN): What is Hayashi's favourite weapon type in Nioh?

My favourite weapons are the dual katanas (katanas in both hands). While you have less damage for every impact, you really have a lot of agility with those weapons.

Johnspan (GR), Guinko (IT) & s300d_alasmari (EN): Will there be a real-time PVP system? What about co-op for exploration?

Regarding PVP, there will be a free update. There are going to be two kinds of co-op in the game. One is a random matching co-op and the other one is a friend co-op.

BaronNK (GR): May I have it now please?

(laughs) Please, just wait one more month!

I think DS2 has some pretty bullshitty unfairness within. It's not even that it's more difficult than the 3 (4 with Bloodborne, I suppose) other games, it's just the way in which it achieves its level of challenge.
