Or you could end up with a slightly more expensive but still perfectly viable computer. Millions of people buy per-builds every year with no problems and are happy with them but the way you guys go on you would think they all break within months and the companies who sold them just have recorded laughter on the helplines.

Millions of people are morons. Millions of people take their own lives. Millions of people are console gamers. Doesn't make any of them smart.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

You really can't accept that people go out and buy complete computers and are happy with what they get can you.

I think its fair to say that those.buyers are undemanding users.

I don't think we can safely assume that anyone on this forum will be that undemanding.

A numpty friend of mine at worked just dropped 2k on an Alienware because he liked the motorised vents on the case.

You can't accept that you used a logical fallacy (argumentum ad populum) in your argument in favour of pre-build. Your reasoning was unsound. Now you're moving on to strawberry floating ad hominem. Nice one.

Well this is going nowhere fast. My entire argument is that pre-builds are not always awful and you guys are jumping up and down saying they are universally gooseberry fool.
All the op wanted was advice on what parts and where he could buy a pre-build and rather than being help full you rant for pages because he doesn't feel like building it himself.
You guys can continue being the elitists I always thought you are now as I can't be bothered with this any more.

Plain and simple: If your PC is IN ANY WAY intended for gaming, you should be building it.

Though building is actually far too grandiose a term for what is actually involved.

Thats just not true.

If you can get a good deal on a Prebuild (so its costing significantly less than it would cost for you to buy the parts) and you can find out what parts go into it and you don't mind after the fact changing some of those parts yourself, then you might be better off buying such a prebuild PC.

Of course the other way its not true is if you are using a company like the one mentioned in this topic, who will build a PC for you to your exact specification. Which is likely to be more expensive than buying the parts and building yourself, but not massively so.

Either one of those can be valid choices for gaming PCs under certain conditions.

Yeah I guess under certain conditions prebuilds are the way to go. I understand that if you were on the moon the space gloves would make it difficult to manipulate the pieces and the dust would be all over the place, so deffo get a Dell ready made if you're on the moon.

Pre-builds have their place. For business it is not practical for an organisation to spend time building PCs. For somebody who just wants a home machine to type letters, download MP3's and use the internet and email, it is less hassle to buy a cheap pre-build.

For somebody that wants to game though, pre-builds are the worst thing you can do.

Its not supposd to be profound, its supposed to be true.

Its not always the case that prebuilds are the worst thing for a gaming PC, granted even when you can find a good prebuilt PC at the right price you'll still probably need to change some of the components yourself, but under the right conditions it can be better (ie cheaper) to buy a prebuild than buy all the parts yourself.

Saying straight out that its never the right thing to do is wrong.

Oh dear, someones has just finished their philosophy correspondence course.

But, if I may ponce around just as much back, the OP has asked where he can get what he wants. Most replies are not answering this question, they're telling him what he should want instead. This isn't a debate board, if he doesn't want your
advise, stop offering it and answer his question. Surely someone here is capable of making a simple assessment of which pre-built PC can do what he needs it to?

Also, while ad hominem isn't a particularly good way to argue, you make it a lot easier to use by being a pretentious-sounding banana split.

Cool, thanks for the input mate.

He asked what he should get and we told him what he should get. He wanted a prebuild, but we are recommending he build his own.
