So, confession time...

How long did it take you all to work out you were looking at the brightness slider screen?

I've used it quite a bit and failed to notice anything... hidden (?) within it.

Maybe they removed that bit for the western release?

There was a bit just after the intro where the game just goes to a completely black screen with no audio. Because 2B's old body was destroyed in the black box reaction, her new hardware isn't configured correctly, and it's not until you press right to increase the brightness slider you see what's going on (and notice the volume is also turned off because you can see subtitles at the bottom of the screen). Apparently, it's also recording you fumbling through the menus at that stage, and it uses that in future playthroughs, but I haven't finished the first yet.

I know they changed Sartre's name in the western release to Jean-Paul to be a little less on-the-nose, but it'd be a shame if they took out such a neat touch.

It still does that. Turning up the volume was neat

I've died a few times in the game (once before the story death , the story death, taste test for Jackass, and the one I mentioned on last page), I didn't notice anything regarding the slider after the story death when 9S is going through 2B's calibration. Must have missed it, I guess. The volume being off I can vaguely recall. (Does 9S mention it when you turn it back on?)

Brerlappin wrote:I honestly am not sure how to feel about this game. On one hand, I love the design and the story is cool, the gameplay is fun if a bit confusing at times with way too much happening on screen. But the open world isn't...great. Its very monotonous and whoever designed that mini map needs to be smacked over the head with it. Who had the bright idea to have all map markers be either red diamonds or red dots?! Theres a million of them all over the map now, and theres no way that I can see to toggle active quests. Like everything ive picked up is active by default. The side quests don't seem to really be worth doing either. And its confusing as strawberry float like I got that renegade yorha hunt mission, and ive explored the highlighted areas top to bottom but haven't found a single person. Its just poorly designed overall. And having to press down to select a medkit and B in the middle of a fight is ridiculous. The whole plug in chip thing isn't explained at all in game either. Its a poorly laid out UI with a confusing plug in chip system that you have to figure out for yourself. There a lot to like about the game but also a strawberry float ton of jank that's slowly starting to get on my nerves

That renegade hunt was odd :? There were 3 areas marked, I went to one and nothing, went to another one nearby (rooftop in the city) and 2 of the targets were there but they ran off after a bit, then went to previously visited location (because I cba to trek all way to third) and... they were there. Killed 'em and then the 3rd target appeared in same loc.

Re map Q icons: yeah, red diamonds all over can get a bit much, but I found placing a custom marker on the one I wanted to do made it easier to tell apart from the others when looking at mini map.

First aid took me a bit of getting used to, but it feels second nature now.

Worst thing about UI is how navigating the large map is 2 button presses away instead of one.

Chips side of it is pretty straight forward: they do stack, max number you can have active can be increased, black diamond = for that version of the chip (say running speed increase), said chip takes up the least number of slots.

My biggest gripe with the game has to be the goddamn sparks when fighting melee. Cannot. See. gooseberry fool.

 Oh! I see what Jiggles was talking about now. The game plays back what you originally did with the settings as 2B. Cute. Tip: don't go AFK during your initial calibration (as 2B) with 9S. :fp:

I just found TWO areas I'd completely missed on first playthrough (it's at starting area of desert zone, hope the wall on your right), best of all it lead to a area/weapon which wouldn't have been available on first playthrough.

So, got this on a complete impulse after at least 3 reviews called it a "masterpiece." Played the first 20 minutes and it's already nothing like I expected.

Hype get.

EDIT: They weren't kidding about the no autosave thing were they? Had to do the first section 3 times which was fun, but frustrating.

Gonna finish second playthrough today/tomorrow, and then put this on the back-burner until I'm done with Persona 5 and Horizon: Zero Dawn. I'm still enjoying it but, unless third and fourth playthroughs are massively different, I know I'm gonna get tired of it and I really don't want that to happen. Instead I will end it on a high, and play again in a few months time. (*Touch wood*)

This is probably my most accurate transcription, I used the "quiet" version to get the voice as isolated as I can, then I put the lyrics over the Dynamic version, but the lyrics are the same through all versions of this song. Gameplay footage was recorded by myself.

The text at the top of the screen is written in "Celestial" or "Angelic" script, not completely accurate, I only put it in for the Aesthetic bonus.
You can learn more about celestial script here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celestial_Alphabet

These lyrics aren't at all official, just a fan transcription, feel free to use them in any covers or anything you plan on doing, and whilst I'm not going to hunt you down for not crediting, it would be appreciated if you could link to this video.

The language sung in many NieR tracks, (Excluding ashes of dreams and The weight of the world) is not a proper spoken language, and is actually a mish mash of several real world languages to create a fictional portrayal of the language drift between today and the game(s) setting.

Still not bought the game, but love the soundtrack, reminds me of the Ghost in the She'll animes.

I've almost played through the game twice and there's only one track I don't love.

Well this isn't getting finished tonight, and maybe not tomorrow night, either, because the side missions just keep on coming!
