That's the Wing Commander series at least they had some proper gameplay since they were space shooters with FMV cutscenes. If memory serves the FMV was of higher quality than it's contemporaries too.

I remember that other FMV game that came out, Sewer Shark, my God that was shite!

Wing Commander. Got a few of those free as 'on the house' games with Origin.

*Yeah nevermind that, beaten to it :fp:

Wing Commander? He was in that but it had a fair amount of gameplay, too.

Actually it was Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger.

Loads of "proper" games had live action cutscenes in that era, Command and Conquer is another good example. There is a wealth of difference between a game with live action cutscenes and a game that is almost entirely FMV such as Night Trap or Time Traveller.

One rather intersting use of FMV in a proper game was the backgrounds in the Fear Effect games which were looping FMVs.

I'd love a new Wing Commander with performance/facial capture.

They could even make the actors look like the younger versions of themselves using mapping.

Edit: Mark Hamil's already doing this for Star Citizen

Wing Commander was one of my favourite Amiga games, despite being utterly broken on the A600. That single-figure frame rate

Still, loved the atmosphere.

Maybe we should have an FMV game topic.

One of my favourites back in the day was Star Trek Borg.
You thought Sisko was badass punching Q? strawberry float that, this game has someone kneeling him right in the cue balls.

Yeah, Wing Commander III was considerably higher quality video, but then it was two to three years later, and in the next (32-bit) generation.

People who haven't played Night Trap before are going to be so frustrated with it. I bet most will end up using a guide rather than having the patience to replay/learn/take notes. They'll be done in an hour.

EDIT: That's if that can bear Megan for that long.

From what I gather the remake is going to be a bit easier as the links to other rooms are live video rather than static images now so you can see if something's going on.

I guess that makes more practical sense, but it's going to make it too easy.
