Was it ever confirmed that Splatoon has local multiplayer?

Yes. The developers said that they're working on 1vs1 local play and single player content.

I have so much stuff to watch from the Treehouse. Nintendo easily had the best conference/presentation but Treehouse has unequivocally given them the best showing at E3. Did Sony or Microsoft have anywhere near such a detailed amount of gameplay of their big titles to come? I'm still on a Smash Bros binge.

What exactly did Treehouse offer that's not been done before? It looked to me like it was just a live stream of the developers playing their games, is that a new thing? I very rarely follow E3, I just look at the threads after and read website / magazine articles.

Very roughly... it offered discussion and lengthy play-throughs of upcoming games over a three-day period rather than the short CGI sequences seen at some other presentations.

Next year, everyone will have a Treehouse-type section of the show.

There's a good write up on it here: http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2014/06/12/nintendos-treehouse-and-digital-event-strategy-is-the-future-of-e3/

Everyone shows off actual gameplay on the show floor. What Nintendo did differently was to cut out the gaming media doing streams/videos of games being played (which often meant having to wait for video to be edited etc) and did it themselves. This is how every company should do it from now on though, the Treehouse stuff was brilliant.

They also had devs there playing the games (or at least Treehouse localisation staff) meaning they could talk about the game in more detail as it was something they were familiar with rather than just a first impression.

Again, that is not something exclusive to Nintendo, everyone else either has their devs or representatives playing their games, we just don't see it at home much, it's usually journalists who we see videos of.

The great thing about Nintendo Directs and Treehouse at E3 is that they can put out their own message of intent without it being diluted by games media.

Essentially it means we're getting information second-hand instead of third-hand.

The big difference between showing off games on the floor and showing actual gameplay is not only the treehouse stuff not very time restricted, I mean some games went on in like 45 minute segments, but it's also all direct feed.

If you look at GTs stuff for example after the conferences was over, it's mainly them just talking over and about a CG trailer they showed off. When you eventually do see them play a game it's often off screen with the sound completely impossible to hear due to all the outside noise and most of the time they don't even seem to find any joy in gaming anymore. They're oftentimes both overly optimistic and pessimistic about the completely wrong things and I find it impossible to find any enjoyment from watching them.

The thing about the Treehouse people they had on was they weren't media trained (Nate especially being hilarious) and you could tell when they were playing that they genuinly wanted to explore and show as much as possible off while still having a complete ball playing. Those are the people I prefer watching, because watching them enjoy things as much as they did makes me a hell of a lot more excited.

Yes I guess you can say that's just clever advertising and ok it probably is, but I honestly felt somewhat of a connection with the people showing stuff off on the Treehouse stream in terms of enjoyment. I could see first hand that they were enjoying the experience just not, if not more than me. They had fun and money seemed to be secondary compared to the majority of games critics.

I would like to see future Nintendo directs borrow the digital event style and have the dev's showing/talking about there new games rather than short trailers

Wonder when the next Nintendo Direct will be :?:

Gutted that I missed all the Treehouse stuff while it was on, sounds like it was brilliant. I loved the digital event, lots of lols (and great games, obvs). I do tend to like seeing as little game footage as possible before playing but it would have been good to see the format, will need to check out some of the videos. Thanks for listing them all, Floex.

Treehouse will save the Wii U.

I may have missed this, as I only watched the thirty minute presentation, but what did they show of Starfox in the end? I've barely heard it mentioned on here, and about two images of it.

What did they say about it? I am scared that it is all an elaborate hoax designed to fool me, and only me.
