With this and Luigi, the 3DS has more appeal than the Switch.

What a console the 3DS IS

I'm posting from my 3DS in June 2018 :toot: . I've barely played on the console since Switch launched... but now I've rediscovered the wee machine and I'm right back into Animal Crossing!

These games should have been on Switch, the draught is real.

Luigi's Mansion may well be my last 3DS game. Shame Nintendo haven't mentioned it since the announcement.

My dad picked up a New 2DS XL a couple months ago but has decided he doesn’t want it so it’s passed onto me. It’s a really nice system and the bigger screens (Over my New 3DS regular model) are great

Because of this, I’m thinking of picking up some 3DS games that i’ve missed out on over the last few years, i’ve pre-ordered WarioWare Gold and will pick up Luigi’s Mansion, also looking at

Detective Pikachu
Rhythm Heaven Megamix
Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowsers Minion

I am umming and aching about Metroid Samus Returns, Ever Oasis and Monster Hunter Stories, anyone tried the latter 2 and offer any opinions? Any other recommendations from last 2 years?

Well I recommend Samus Returns.

Great 3DS games from the last two years in my opinion:

Pokémon Sun/Moon. Or I guess Ultra Sun/Moon if you want - more content but worse story imo.

Fire Emblem Fates Conquest - of the Fates games it's the most challenging/traditional, but it still has all the support conversation/matchmaking stuff if you care about that. The story still isn't great but it's a nice looking/sounding game with a lot of depth to the mechanics which were improved over Awakening.

Samus Returns ofc

Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology - smart RPG, great story & writing. Interesting battle system - admittedly not the most compelling, but it's different at least. Cool time-travelling and multi-dimensional hijinxs. Apparently this isn't essential if you've already played the DS game which it remakes, but I haven't played the original so idk. Oh and the voice acting is pretty great and there's lots of it.

Fire Emblem: Shadows of Valentia - very different game to any of the Fates ones or Awakening in fact. It's a remake of the second game. A lot of familiar Fire Emblem gameplay here though it's one of the most unique games. 3D dungeon segments, a lot of changed mechanics, town segments. And this game is very beautiful. Amazing art and sound.

Ever Oasis and Monster Hunter Stories are two of my top 5 games from last year. Slight plug but my thoughts about them are here (number 4 and 3). I really like them both :toot:

Yesterday I bought Dillon's Dead-Heat Breakers, which I only just realised came out and was a bit of an impulse buy. I haven't played the first two games but damn, this is properly Mad Max and I love it for it. Starts with my mii turning into a wolf and then driving a big rig down a post-apocalyptic highway with enemies driving in pursuit, who Dillon then races down. It's a bit out there.

Three of the best 3DS games out there, well worth getting them all.
Fire Emblem Echoes is well worth a shout too, and Hey Pikmin is worth a punt too even if it's easy as fudge.

Fire Emblem Echoes pissed me off to no end. I do wish they'd take some of the stuff from it, but it sticks too closely to the original. The maps and unit placement are sometimes really annoying and kill the flow of the game.

The main characters are thick as shite as well, Celica in particular is a moron.

Cheers all, i’m not a fan of the Fire Emblems so i’ll pass on them. I’m hoping to pick up a couple of games this month so might take a punt on Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga and either Monster Hunter Stories or Ever Oasis

As someone who played all three of the above, I'd rank them EO > M&LSS > MHS. Granted, you may get more out of the latter than I did if you're a MonHun fan: I just found it a bit derivative, once you get past the charm of riding your (urgh) Monstie for the first time. The plot and writing are bobbins too. I understand that this verdict is not the general one, however.

M&LSS remains my favourite of its series. That's partially because of nostalgia, I'm sure, but characters such as Fawful and Popple are still great if you haven't enjoyed them yet. And if you have, you'll feel nostalgic too! Win-win.

EO is one of the most charming games you've never played. Rhythm Paradise has never not been good either.

Balla speaks truthy words. As a monster hunter fan I definitely got a lot out of stories, but I think he's right that those who aren't will get less. Still a very good game regardless though!

Meanwhile I've played more of Dead-Heat Breakers tonight, so done three main missions now. Systems seem to have stacked enough in place to give me a proper feel for the game and to ensure that I'm constantly occupied in battle. It maybe a strange comparison to make, but I feel like it shares the Musou gameplay style of map crisis management.
