I agree with Jawa - I had that clear Xbox  Got it for Christmas with Halo 1 & 2, OutRun2 and Pro Evo. For a previously Nintendo-only gamer, it was like walking into an entirely new world

But that's completely off-topic, so...

I don't even have a 3DS, but this thread OP must be one of the best around.

OutRun 2 discussion is never off-topic.

The see through consoles are such a nostalgic throwback! The colours even seem to match my memory of the original Ruby and Sapphire GBA carts.

As Jawa says, I'd love a fully transparent new 3DS XL too.

Not a fan of the colours, but transparent consoles are the best.

My first handheld was a translucent Gameboy Pocket:

Wish I still had it, a deeply erotic device.

I like the transparent 2DS designs and I would happily welcome out transparent New 3DS XL overlords.

So, who's getting the New 3DS?

I may swap my 3DS XL for a Standard New 3DS.

You'll be able to see all the little Pikmin doing their work as you're playing a game.

Modded consoles with tiny Pikmin figures secured on the inside. It's the future.

I really want this now, sounds amazing.

Nintendo look to be updating their Digital Distribution In-Store methods

Nintendo Download: 25th September (Europe)- Nothing particularly interesting

Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire will be getting special demos next month

For any female GRcaders in here (or anyone, I suppose):

The New 3DS and New 3DS XL are launching in Australia and New Zealand* ahead of USA and Europe.

I still can't understand why Nintendo announced new models four months prior to Christmas but won't make them available in two of its biggest sales territories until the new year. Probably March or April in the UK.

* GRCade's Manny could well be planning some sort of world-exclusive inside story!

It is strange to see it launch in Australia before the UK and US because, like you said, the UK and US are bigger regions. It may be that Nintendo doesn't want too many stock shortages during its launch but that just means that Nintendo should have delayed announcing the device at all. Despite the current free game promotion when you register a 2DS/3DS/3DS XL and ORAS or SSB, I believe that the New 3DS' announcement will have reduced 2DS/3DS/3DS XL console sales this Christmas.

They need it out in a decent time for the new Monster Hunter in Japan and 3DS sales in Japan unlike America/Europe have decreased quite rapidly recently as until Smash there's been a bit of a lack of software. I'd also imagine they want them out for the AS/OR releases in Japan. It was either miss that window entirely or release it in atleast one place to get something from that window sales wise.

New news for new thread? Or at least, new new 3DS news for the new new 3ds thread ( )?

The fact it's launching in Australia makes it seem like it must just be a production issue. The market is small enough to get the extras from Japan, but the numbers aren't big enough to sustain a western launch yet. Plus, with the big OR/AS bundle being the 2DS it seems clear that, at least in Europe, they don't think it's going to harm them by waiting.

Although it does seem to confirm that "new" is the official branding worldwide. I was sure they would use something a bit clearer, but it appears the inevitable "Only playable on New Nintendo 3DS" sticker confusion is coming. :dread:

Definitely, TAP. Most casual players struggle with the 2DS / 3DS / 3DS XL variations (all new 3DS boxed titles now have a 'playable on 2DS' label), so adding in New 3DS and New 3DS XL seems likely to cause confusion.

It might have been lost in translation with the original Japanese announcement, but the Australian Direct makes a point of explicitly mentioning that multiple New 3DS enchanced / exclusive games are already in development. It seems Xenoblade is only the first of a new wave of titles.
