One of my favourite RPG's on the DS. Will be interesting to see if much is changed for this version.

I had exactly the same situation! Thats kinda spooky :shifty: . So, i have not played it yet (i'm sure i will get a few hours of fun from it though as i love Arkanoid type games). Any thoughts on it from your perspective?

Just a brief update on this one as i finished it yesterday, Its.... OK. Completely unspectacular but does have some good mechanics in there. I have not got Gold medals on more than a handful of the levels, and to be honest i never see myself going back to it now, but it did kill about 4-5 hours and it was a pretty jolly affair. Music was good too.
Probably worth digging in to as a pallet cleanser between more meaty games.

Nice one, kaz - sounds like it delivered a decent chunk of fun for a freebie game :) .

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.

This game deserved more of a budget thrown at it. It was really good, but you could tell how little they had to work with.

Hopefully the 3DS version has more stuff in it. More my tracks would be nice. It had such great music but there was so little of it.

Skimming though the latest Direct it looks like there's more life in the console than I thought. Funny how the original Luigi's Mansion is coming to the 3DS, after the sequel, but it makes sense since they can easily re-use a lot of assets. May check it out since I never completed it on Gamecube.

I bought the 3DS a few years back pretty much on a whim after a long break from videogames but I steadily got around to playing nearly all the games I felt were worthwhile on the system, and it has a pretty decent library. There are a handful of titles I still want to play, like Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology (not sure if I want to play the DS one instead though) and Resi Revelations.

This has reminded me I need to tell the fiancee that more 3DS stuff has been announced she really doesn't want to have to upgrade to a new thing as shes so attached to hers.

The thumbstick broke on my (2nd hand from CEX) 3DS XL. :dread:

I've had it a couple of years, and I guess the stick's always felt a little off, but a few days ago the circle part came off, leaving a stump. I've never see this kind of wear on a Nintendo console - but I'm betting whoever has it before me played a lot of Smash Bros on it. :x

A glue repair has left it feeling a little off, so I've got hold of a replacement stick for fitting.

I've not brave enough to fit it but nothing seems to faze my cousin, so he's going to have a go at it. Says it looks 'easy' according to youtube videos. He is most definitely gifted at fixing stuff, so I totally trust him to do it.

I love the 3DS, I hope it is supported for a while yet - and if not, there's a huge library, including the DS library & digital, it'll keep my going a long while yet.

The motherboard is easy to access, and I think the solder pads for that part are quite large compared to the rest, so replacing the whole stick assembly shoudnt be too hard.

Be really careful with the ZIF retention clips/flaps, especially the microphone's, as I broke mine this way. These are were the ribbon cables attach and detach. You'll need to detach stuff to flip the motherboard and clamp/secure it for solder. Forget about fixing those without ordering a new motherboard just to desolder and resolder that part which is ,of course, pointless.

Plectrums or a spudger are a good way to get it open. And nintendo have for whatever reason decided to actually use Phillips screws for once.

It didn't matter that much, but I really liked my red 3ds XL, and I would have kept it if it weren't for money and I found a dinged up New 3DS XL priced as a standard XL for £75 (managed to sell the 3ds XL for 60 quid so pretty sweet upgrade for 15 quid). Need to replace the shell on that but everything works perfectly. You can get them from Shenzhen on eBay, someone appears to have acquired the mould and the finishes even look the same (may even be factory parts who knows ). Mine is gunmetal which is pretty nice but they are selling the majora's mask gold shell which is nice way to get that look for cheap... Might just go for red again and do my own design with my decals.

Back to games though I've finally got metroid back for my birthday (I was forced to sell the legacy edition without even playing it) and I've been really enjoying dallying about it Rune Factory 4 after that was on sale. Digital only western release so it's easy to forget about it. It's a decent little rpg with nice characters mashed together with harvest moon and crafting elements. There's even fishing. You can capture and rear monster allies and harvest their fur, eggs etc. Nice to dip in and out of as you can do strawberry float all but grow stuff for a bit and fast travel in and out of the overall areas and the town. A day lasts about 20 minutes. everyone is just nice ,it's a very pleasant game.

My favourite moment is probably triggering some bizarre gathering with some character activations at night that gave me an overpowered giant turnip as a greatsword for some reason. Yeah, no idea either.

Thanks, GG. I've passed on the tips to my cousin. I'll drop the 3DS over to him next week and see how we get on, I'll let you know.

Oh yeah, there may be a few torx screws. Ifixit.com will have great photos.

Apparently my cousin swapped the thumbstick over last night, now working perfectly. What a star! :D

Should get it back over the weekend.

In other news - has the 3DS been all but been discontinued? Seems to barely be mentioned on the Nintendo website, only 2DS/2DS XL bundles seem to be available.

It just so happened I didnt read this thread in a while and when I opened it today it was on this post:
jawafour wrote:There is a rumour that the New Nintendo 3DS XL console is soon gonna be dropped by Nintendo across the UK and Europe. This would mean that the Nintendo 2DS and New Nintendo 2DS XL would be the only consoles available in the 3DS family... and so bring to an end support for the key 3D feature!

I can't imagine that there will be many major 3DS / 2DS games arriving next year. It feels like the 2DS consoles will become "cheap" gaming options targeting younger players whilst the Switch will see the bulk of focus and development from Nintendo. I wondered if a cheaper, dock-less version of the Switch could arrive for the summer?

So its possible they are deemphasisng the 3DS side of things and making the 2DS machines the lead platforms.

Yeah, this started months ago. Retailers can now only order 2DS and New 2DS XL consoles from Nintendo.

I got the chance to buy a 2nd hand great condition NEW 3DS a week or two ago for £60 but my daughter saw it and really really wanted it and so gave me the £60, so guess im still stuck with my clunky 2DS... In honesty neither of us botherd with the 3D when I had a 3DS, she never bothers with it at all and my fiancee hardly ever turns on the 3D on hers either so my feelings are going 2d wont piss off many people.

I just got the latest Layton game for my Birthday, and to my surprise it doesn't support 3d at all.

Although the 3d effect adds nothing to the gameplay in the Layton series, I really miss the crisp "pop-out" 3d of the others in the series, and the graphics seem a little drab as a result.

I'm sad to see the demise of the 3d effect, subtle as it was.

If you're disappointed by the lack of 3D prepare to be disappointed by the rest of the game :shifty:

It feels like it's been done so cheaply because it was also an iOS game
