I only got the latest Layton game as a present, and I'm really hesitant to start it. Everything I've heard about it sounds poor, and I have a horrible feeling it might totally ruin the ending to Lost Future.

Such a shame, because Layton vs Phoenix Wright was amazing.

The Layton's daughter game was pretty disappointing, the story was a load of old tosh and the puzzles where way too easy. Felt like a rushed port of a phone game, yet I did kinda enjoyed it as it was charming af.

I've finally started Samus Returns and besides being an excellent modern 2D metroid and despite people bitching about it not being on Switch the 3D effect is in full force and looks amazing. New 3DS XL supremacy (and still so chuffed I found one for just £70). The environmental art and backgrounds are basically from the Prime series, if you've played Metroid II (which I own) it's a world apart from the original mish-mash of monochrome pixel sprites.

Some of the environments later on when you go down deeper look amazing.

I haven't played the latest Layton one. I was kinda worried about the same thing too. I wonder how well it ties in.

I'll be picking it up, possibly when it's reduced though. I hate that it isn't getting a physical release. Written by one of the creators of Suikoden, which I'm a huge fan of, so I'm really curious to see how it turned out.

I didn't realise people were complaining about it not being on Switch lol. We haven't had a new 2D Metroid game on home consoles since Super Metroid so I don't know why people got their hopes up for that, if they did.

I'm glad it was for 3DS and not Switch since I don't have the latter yet, and it seems like the game was a decent success sales-wise for a Metroid game. Secondhand original 3DSs are pretty cheap now, and they could get one not only for Samus Returns but a pretty solid games library overall too.

If it's come out on 3DS since the Switch was announced, then people are complaining about it not being on Switch.

We can't all get a 300 quid console with the same essential purpose. And you have second screen for map, it's perfect.

Plus it's probably born out of previous cancelled projects anyway with how to make best Metroid game on DS which was probably then upgraded to actual 3D for 3DS as I imagine the pixel art wouldn't have been done justice with a blocky DS samus. Possibly why there was no N64 game either. Let's be honest it would have looked terrible, there's too much detail and atmosphere in a Metroid game.

It looks great. Only thing I don't like is the lack of a button for angled shots.

A 2D Metroid could have looked great on the DS, easily. It might have even looked nice in 2.5D but that would have been a bit more of a challenge. I don't know why the planned DS game (Metroid Dread) was cancelled but it could have been all sorts of reasons. The series isn't too big a seller - much like F-Zero - so I guess it was pretty low priority.

As for whether or not it would have looked good on N64, it's hard to imagine/say because a lot of the 3D games have aged terribly - but looked okay at the time. Like Goldeneye. It was hard for Nintendo and I guess developers generally to transition 2D series to 3D well. Got it right with Mario, Zelda and Star Fox but (apparently) Donkey Kong and Castlevania 64 were not very good.

Anyone excited for Detective Pikachu? The thought of him speaking is so weird, but I guess if Meowth could do it... why not a Pikachu?

I've never played a detective game though, and I'm not really a fan of puzzle games so I'm not sure if it will be for me.
