What is a Nintendo Network ID?
Nintendo Network ID is a unique identifier made up of 6 to 16 characters that allows you to access Nintendo Network services, such as Miiverse and Nintendo eShop, on Wii U and 3DS.

      So what's a Friend Code?
Unfortunately, the 3DS was created before the NNID, so it actually uses both. Your NNID tracks your purchases, miiverse, etc., but your Friend Code is still the thing you need to play with friends online in multiplayer 3DS games. It's a 12 digit code, found in your Friend's List, and both people need to add each other for it to register. Thankfully, you only need to do this once. The same friend code is used for all games on 3DS.

Can I transfer my content from one 3DS to another 3DS?
Yes, you can. However, you need to have both 3DS at the same time to do so. Using the System Transfer function, you can move everything (games, DLC, saves, activity log, etc.) from your old 3DS to your new 3DS. You can do this as many times as you like, and your new 3DS will act exactly like your old 3DS once the transfer is complete, with all your previous settings and content being kept the same way.

NOTE: Nintendo have warned that it will not be possible to system transfer from the new 3DS models launching in 2015 to an older model, due to "new functionality". You can upgrade and transfer from an old 3DS to the new models, but the reverse will not be possible.

Amazing OP, TAP

I'm leaning towards going back to the OG sized DS when it launches here in 2015 just for those buttons.

Don't worry, the thread title is safe. The |OT| concept doesn't really make sense for GR anyway.

Persona Q, FF Theatrhythm, Pokemon Ruby and SMT IV for me over the next few months. Smash Bros and Fantasy Life are maybes.

Just played the demo for Theatrhythm, that was really fun! Really looking forward to the game. Seems like there's a lot of content in it.

Quick Question. As I'm looking to sell off my modded UK 3DS, I need to know whether or not whoever buys it from me can play the Bravely Default and Fire Emblem Awakening games I downloaded from the eShop on it (and can they do so if I delete my NNID/personal details from the 3DS prior to posting it)?

Cheers!

Christ, Japan can be so cheap for games. Or, at least, you don't seem to pay Nintendo Tax on everything an the games hold their price. I just bought Pokemon Y for £16, Monster Hunter 3 for £4 and Bravely Default for £5 .

These are all from Book Off so I think they are second hand, but everything is in immaculate condition and not covered in suspect dirt like UK second hand copies).

I also think Bravely Default and MH are cheaper because they have sequels out here in Japan already too.

Still, Mario and Luigi 4 and Paper Mario were £12 also. If my Japanese was better I would have snapped them up. I don't think I will be able to understand Bravely Default, though Pokemon has an English language option and I have MH for the Wii U so should knows way around.

I have basically only bought a Japanese 3DS for Smash Bros. I figured I would buy the New style one when I get back to the UK rather than have a region-locked new model.

I nearly bought a second had DS XL by mistake in the thrall of cheapness over here. I had forgotten that they even released the original DS in that size.

EDIT - Wow, the save game on the MH 3 cart has 820 hours on the clock. I will feel guilty saving over it. Maybe.

Do you have another 3DS you're doing a system transfer to? That would wipe it completely. If not you can format the system memory completely from the settings menu.

Or are you looking to keep the games on it as a bonus for selling but take all your NNID details etc. off it? I'm not 100% sure about that.

In what way is it modded?

That charging stand looks quite slime, does it stand vertically in it?

I had to weigh up whether I wanted Smash Bros on Saturday (we have a three day weekend as well, which I am pretty sure is proof that Smash Bros gets a public holiday) or whether I wanted to wait and get the New 3DS and get Smash in October, long after you weak gaijin get it.

In the end, I realised that Japan Smash Bros is more of a short-term investment, and the New 3DS would be better off bought in the UK were it can play games I can actually read, and have a longer life. I can always trade my Japanese XL in before I leave.

What Japan-exclusive games would you recommend, StayDead? I am probably going to pick up Dragon Quest 7 and 10 when it is ported over, and maybe Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.

I just tried Bravely Default and I am not sure whether to just wait and get the English version. I can read some of it, but I feel like I would be missing out (which is the same for any RPGs over here I guess, including Dragon Quest). The game only cost me a fiver, so I am not too out of pocket.

Any games have English language options, like Pokemon Y? Would be way cheaper playing them here than paying Nintendo Tax back in Europe. I am still shocked how cheap first party Nintendo titles get here. I think Nintendo may be secretly racist, guys.
