Gotta love my SNES VC games. That reminds me, I'm planning to buy the Donkey Kong Country trilogy on SNES 2DS VC this weekend :toot:

I would highly recommend the New 2DS.

DKC2

Always get miffed at the dismissive comments made at the DKC sequels because of the lack of DK himself, 2 is by far the best of that trilogy

Hilariously, I find DKC1 to be the worst one out of them all. It's not a bad game, it just feels incredibly unrefined in comparison to the other games. Some of the decisions in level design are baffling, I will never forget that snow level with the barrels. What a silly idea.

I probably prefer 1 to 3 slightly but they definitely get more polished as they go on aye. I like the barrel levels but my last DKC1 playthrough (on 3DS appropriately enough) was much rustier than I expected, the last two worlds D:

Ok, bit of an add one this and going by the lack of info I've found on Google it seems to be a rare one.

3DS (original model).

Removed the game card, turn on, blue power light comes on solid for about 3 seconds then there's a quick crackle /snap sound and it turns off. At no point does anything show on the screen.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like a power or capacitor problem. You probably need a new unit but you could try replacing the battery. You might be wasting your money though. Maybe pick up a 2DS.

Thanks, I'll try to find one on eBay.

I thought it might have been the black screen of death but all the YouTube videos show the power light staying on.

Black screen of death is probably a microprocessor/RAM/screen inverter/dead LCD problem. What's happening to you sounds like a lower level power issue.

It's a shame because I've literally never had Nintendo hardware fail in any way for 24 years and I've never replaced a console or handheld.

If you're talking about batteries, be very careful on eBay and Amazon Marketplace - aftermarket li-ion batteries often bulge and can even explode which can damage the system more. Try to find one taken out of a recycled system manufactured by Nintendo. I'm not sure if the battery is user replaceable - the GBA SP was.

Worst case scenario is you can probably still sell it on eBay for parts - someone might want your screen or face buttons/analogue stick. Then pick up a second hand 2DS for £50 or so, with the benefit of it being more durable and if I recall correctly a slightly larger and brighter screen. Yes it looks like a big wedge of edam cheese but its apparently the most comfortable system.

Really annoying how they didn't release Pokemon Crystal on the VC along with Gold and Silver.

Feck to spend my fun money on this time of month so I'll nab that. It's actually really fun having a few themes on random rotation, they also change when you go in and out of sleep. :)

I like themes on the 3DS. I have a few of the Animal Crossing ones... I tend to use the appropriate seasonal ones :) .

Surely it can’t be too long before themes appear on the Switch? Then again, they never arrived for the U.

I forgot Gold and Silver was even coming out. I don't know if I can be bothered because I have Soul Silver. I still haven't played Pokemon Yellow yet.

So... the 3DS. After a lengthy period of not-much-happening, the latter half of this year is seeing a number of decent games arriving.

Miitopia, Ever Oasis, Metroid: Samus Returns, Monster Hunter Stories, YO-KAI Watch 2: Psychic Specters, Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga, Layton’s Mystery Journey, Culdcept Revolt, Story of Seasons 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth, Kirby: Battle Royale and Pokemon Sun/Moon Ultra.

That’s pretty impressive for a system that was generally seen to be in decline. I think I’ll be returning to the console after taking a bit of a break from it.

I’m still furious about Miiverse closing, though :x .

Ever Oasis and MH Stories are two of my favourite games this year

55 hours into stories now, it seems like the final boss is imminent. But of course there is post game B)

I'm sort of interested in Culdcept, but I think I'll wait for a sub-£25 price really. Same for Monster Hunter Stories.

Still meaning to get around to getting the first Yo-Kai watch as well.

Finishing of SMT IV:Apocalypse at the moment, after that will possibly go back to 7th Dragon III and see if I can get past the brick wall I hit. Might need to grind a bit though unfortunately.

You can start with YW2, for what it's worth. The opening of 2 largely reworks what happened in the original. It's amazing how much content 2 has.

There's still a few 3DS games I want. Ever Oasis, Picross 3D 2, Metroid, 7th Dragon, Etrian Odyssey Mystery Dungeon to name a few.

Oh? Might do that then. Is this new one coming like a Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal type situation?

Edit - just seen on Amazon that it says Psychic Specters has all of the content of the other 2 games, but also saw this,

Exclusive dungeons for owners of Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls - players with save data from one or both of the previous versions can access new dungeons to fight special bosses and befriend exclusive Yo-kai

Do you need a clear save to unlock this stuff? Or is it basically just having a save from one of those will unlock a bunch of stuff in Psychic Specters regardless of completion data? If the latter I might just rent one of the previous ones from Boomerang, make a save game, then play through Psychic Specters with all of the unlocked stuff.

I'm totally back in love with my 3ds at the moment. Currently playing VLR after completing Luigis Mansion 2. I keep thinking about picking up a Switch but the rather awesome Vita and 3ds backlog I have means I really can't justify it. Doesn't mean I don't want one of course but I can't justify it.

Genuinely have no idea, I haven't picked up Psychic Spectres yet. I assume it's clear data, rather than just a save file, as it's supposed to be postgame content. As stupid as it sounds I think you may need to transfer both Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls to get all the content. :|
