I want to get into the Fire Emblem series this summer, but have no idea where to start...Have never played a FE game.

Any tips?

I was thinking of going with Fire Emblem Awakenings, or should I go with the new ones? Which are better / best for a FE newbie like me?

Thanks! :-)

Depends on what systems you have.

Fire Emblem and Fire Emblem Sacred Stones were the first games to be released in the West for GBA, they are available on Wii U VC.

I would not recommend either Path of Radiance or Radiant Dawn to beginners.

Awakening is probably a good place to start if you only have a 3DS or want to play on 3DS.

Get Awakening. It's a fantastic game, although I probably shouldn't say that too loudly because it is hated by the FE community.

Thanks everyone. Think I'll go with Awakenings.

Awakening is class. Keep in mind that after awakening they ramped up all the Paedo gooseberry fool to appease the FE community, so I wouldn't worry too much about them!

Paedo gooseberry fool, circa Ancient Japan:

Historical precedence for exaggerated features + diminutive overall race + lower age of consent = what you see.

FE sure has become slightly more sexualised, but it's certainly not paedophilic. :fp:

I've never had gooseberry fool suddenly make so much sense after visiting a culture that seems bonkers over here. That temple was probably the main part of. It's FULL of statues and caricatures thousands of years old that look just like manga/anime.

But sure all this

Meanwhile, Nintendo has ceased production of the New Nintendo 3DS model in Japan  . I'm pretty surprised about this... personally, it has been my favourite model of the 3DS family. The range of 3DS consoles available in Japan now consists of the New 3DS LL, 2DS XL and 2DS. More 2D than 3D!

Isn't it a Fire Emblem game that does the whole "I'm an ancient dragon who just LOOKS LIKE a 10-yr old, therefore it's fine to....." ?

I think I know which character you mean.

But I can't immediately recall a single Japanese person I've met who doesn't look at least 5-10 years younger than their age. We are all gremlins in comparison.

Fire Emblem just became more 'moe' and anime. P-PLEASE TRY HARDER. M-MEME REFERENCES. B-BROTHER I LOVE YOU. P-PLEASE DONT LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT...something something panty something. Stopped playing after the first DS one, don't remember any weebo references but from what ive watched of the 3DS fire emblems they really amped that up, and then it became super popular in the West, so theyve doubled down on it cause westerners love jerking it to little anime girls apparently.

I know what you mean but I guess the 3DS allowed for more actual anime cutscenes and stuff like that, I came into it fresh with Awakening so I'm probably just already used to it from watching anime on Netflix.

Like many things I understand kawaii and even hentai but I don't really dig it. It's just what you make of it, I suppose. They're very good games.

Obviously Awakening was a massive success, I remember the reviews being unanimously excellent and it was around the sweetspot where 3DS XLs were going for £115. After that Nintendo evidently doubled down on it, they also made the characters more and more anime/fantasy realistc. It's less of a "Japanese" aesthetic that's actually quite varied and more of a standardised "anime" look.

Well, that's it - no more New Nintendo 3DS in UK / Europe, either  .

This means consumers have the choice of the Nintendo 2DS XL or the New Nintendo 3DS XL. I wonder why Nintendo is now only giving options closer to the Switch screen size rather than the more portable version?

Presume this will mean no more new face plates either.

Still got my Mario Maker one on.

Yeah, it's my favourite model of the 3DS family, too. The design, the feel, those coloured buttons... it's just lush!
