Right, so the more I try and play this the more I remember how gooseberry fool I am at stealth games. I really want to be able to play these well but it's just not happening. Nothing to do with standard controls which are fine, just I don't get how you do stealth properly (I think it's a patience issue).

Nope, I'm not going to buy this.

Probably :)

Sorry to add to the bitchfest but that demo has made me lose interest in the game. Framerate became very annoying very fast and I hated the standard controls, switched it off after a few minutes. I'll probably check it out again when it comes out and maybe get it if the framerate issue has been sorted and I have a CPP by then.

Thought the Snake Eater demo was poor to be honest. It looks massively outdated and the 3D didn't seem very good at all. Not to mention the mess of the controls.

Ive never played MGS3 so it was all 'as new' for me. I guess apart from the horrid controls, the main problem was the 3D was almost too deep for my liking. It was like peeking through a tiny window to try and see the whole of the game world rather than just looking at it as normal and being in 3D (if that makes any sense?!). A pop out style 3D effect ala SM3DL would help i think.

I don't even have a CCP and I found the game controlled fine. :S

Yeah I had no problem playing through Peace Walker with those controls.

A random question, but can anyone name any 3DS games which use SELECT and, if so, does it just replicate the START button? There is talk going about that Nintendo have disabled it in the dev kits, with it just registering in games as a second START button, but I can't think why they would do that.

For backwards compatibility with DS games and DSiWare.

You've lost me. I don't see why they would need to disable Select in 3DS games for backwards compatibility with DS stuff.

Oh right. Yeah, I know that's why it's on there. Since the button is there and is wired up to work correctly, it just seems random for them to make it a clone button in 3DS mode.

Probably because they want to phase it out? It was rarely used on the DS.

MGS 3D looks pretty good, but apart from the 3D effect the hardware was largely unambitious and dated. What disappoints me is the fact that both screens are incredibly low res and the fact that the bottom one isn't a touch capacitive screen.

Back to MGS 3D - theres really no way I could enjoy playing this without an additional analogue stick. The use of 3D is good, but doesn't really enhance it as much as I was hoping. All in all I think it is Nintendos games that will make best use of the hardware. Really surprised the 3DS is outselling the PSV in Japan, but I am sure the story will be different in Europe and the US.

I wouldn't be so sure. The price difference is now huge between the two. Sony is going for hardcore only to start with, after that they will find it tough esp. if they don't get 3rd party traction. With the PSP they had a lot of initial 3rd party backup mainly on the back of PS2 being such a runaway that everyone expected PSP would do the same. This time they just don't have that position in the market anymore. Make no mistake Sony have a hell of a lot of work to do to make big numbers for Vita.

Just as 3DS will really struggle to get near DS sales, I think PSV will have a tough time to hit PSP numbers. The bright point is that Sony will likely keep vita going for many many years so it will be a good console for the hardcore. ... If Sony are even still around in 10yrs, and that is a genuine question.
