Rather enjoying Fire Emblem, but it seems to flick between "way too easy" and "way too hard" rather quickly. Sometimes I can expolit the AI's movement rigger and sometimes I get bum rushed.

Should probably have not kidded myself and turrned permadeaths off, because I'm restarting if anyone I like dies.

In my opinion, there are three ways to play the game:

Permadeath means permadeath: when someone dies, you don't reload. You finish the game as it unfolds without changing anything.
Premadeath means that you play to perfection: when someone dies, you reload. You finish the game trying to keep everyone alive, no matter how long it takes. I chose this method and I still have a couple of chapters left with over 90 hours of game time.
No permadeahts: people can die in a level but they are back in the next one. Dying is more like fainting in Pokémon. You don't need to play perfectly, unlike method 2.

There's a subtle distinction between methods 2 and 3 that still distinguishes permdeath and non-permadeath, even if you always reload on the former.

I don't think the distinction is all that subtle at all.

There's a subtle distinction between playing how you describe method 2 and playing mostly that way but giving yourself discretion to move on despite character death based on some criteria of your own.

That's how I've always played Fire Emblem, basically if I think that a death is unfair or I made an obvious mistake I'll reload, but if I allow a character to die because I've sacrificed him/her on purpose to win or because I thought the fight required it then I'll play on.

Get Kellam trained up if you have him. He is a strawberry floating great tank. I had him paired with Miriel and they wrecked gooseberry fool.

Also, make sure you get Donnel.

I noticed Disgaea 4 was the same price in $ as £. But as they're over the customs limit, you'd be looking at a potential charge of 20% tax, plus the standard fixed £8 fee from Royal Mail on top of that, which leaves the US version £6 cheaper, but that's discounting international postage, which isn't cheap either. And you'd need to switch Vita accounts to play it, which is a hassle. Which is not something I would be able to do with my 3DS and Persona Q.

Personally, I'm happy to be given the choice. I'm prepared to pay a premium for a physical product, especially when they go to such lengths, but I fear I'm of a dying breed.

Finding my groove with Fire Emblem Awakening. I'm on Chapter 6 and have got a nice setup going, enemies funnel into certain doom and I get ample time to heal up. All going smoothly.

Then they start hitting criticals with a 2% likelihood. :| Twice in a row. :| :| :| And I'm missing attacks that have an 85% likelihood to hit. :| :| :| :| :|

Love the game, but jesus it don't half take the piss sometimes. Also finding it way harder than Sacred Stones, health on enemies even at this stage is insane, especially given how on every map they outnumber me at least 3:1.

Is Donnel the Farm kid? He died straight away. He was gooseberry fool. No ragrets.

Will train up Kellem though.

And DD, I'll be doing method 2.

Donnel was gooseberry fool at start, but he becomes one of my strongest fighters in my game. Because one of his abilities give him hugeee chance of getting EACH stat up to raise. Even to point where all of them can raise. Useful if you can pair him up with another character to marry for later on...

Yeah, as soon as I got Donnel I assumed that he'd be like the Ross/Amelia/Ewan of this game; shite to start with but with some perserverance soon becomes a monster.

I've had this argument before, but Donnel is one of the most powerful characters in the game later on. Its worth replaying the fight where can get him as many times as it takes you to add him to your party.

It's not really something to argue. Donnel is one of the best characters in the game. He gets ridiculously powerful if you put the time into him. Everyone should get him.

Fred on the other hand goes from being great at the start to kinda useless towards the end.

I let him die in one of the missions after I recruited him.

The banana split.

No regrets.

Also, official topic here you guys.

Awakening was my first Fire Emblem, I played with Permadeath on and didn't restart once. The final level saw an epic battle where I lost all but my version of Robin and his Wife Lissa, who finished the last enemy with one HP left. It was an amazing finish to a game I really didn't expect to enjoy, but I will definitely use Permadeath during my next Fire Emblem game (I have all the EU released ones bar the GameCube one).

I just got stuck levelling up donnel too late where he gets destroyed in more difficult missions.

I just made a similar post in the Wii U thread, but are there any advantages to getting a Japanese 3DS?

I am over here until at least next August, so it would be nice to play stuff like Pokemon Sapphire when they come out. What other exclusives are also available?

I do have an original UK 3DS so I could import UK titles I suppose. I could always get a Japanese XL or a cheap second hand model.

How much do they normally go for new over here?

Has anyone seen a micro USB to 3DS adapter like this one?

It would be handy as I would only need to have one cable for my phone, tablet, and 3DS.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Nope, but looks good. Better than a cable will inevitably fall apart over time.

Did the Dragon Quest 7 remake ever get released in the UK? Just noticed it on a shelf over here and it seems pretty good - like a cross between 8 and 9.

Does anyone know any good Japanese exclusive 3DS games? I need to justify being a console over here and not just importing PAL software. Smash Bros is out three weeks earlier so that is something.

Does anyone know any English websites that review Japanese software? For example, when I search to see if Level-5's Yokai Watch game is any good, all I get is reviews in Japanese or English sales figures.
