That gun was amazing, the game in general was, the amount of options with guns and other weaponry was incredible. It took the feeling of being James Bond and ran with it, really made you feel like a badass super spy.

Lik-Sang, strawberry float me that is a blast from the past.

I didn’t pick up an N64 until we were well into the PS2 era. I spotted one cheap in Game and decided to buy one along with Mario 64, Goldeneye, Ocarina of Time and a few other games. Even though the graphics were horrendously dated by then, the games were still amazing.

However, 18 years on and I still haven't played some of the best games on it, though. I feel kinda ashamed to admit that Pilotwings 64, Paper Mario, Space Station Silicon Valley, Shadowman & Turok 3 are some of the gems that never made it into my collection. I swear I''ll pick them up someday!

Shadowman - I loved that game. Sniff.

Yep.

Like OOT's twisted, horrible big brother!

WWF No Mercy, Perfect Dark, Armorines (although that was turd in retrospect), Hybrid Heaven, Goldeneye, Rogue Squadron, Wave Race 64, so many memories

And of course:

YOU'VE GOT BOOST POWER!

I think F-Zero got me into racing games in the first place, i'd never seen anything move so quickly.

So it's legal for the N64 to have a beer? I'll be taking mine down the pub then. :shifty:

This will be a long post.

I was talking with Drumstick the other day about Perfect Dark, and how unbelievably good the soundtrack for that game was, and still is. I played it solidly throughout the GameCube/PS2/XBox years with a group of friends and was a pretty solid player. Never quite managed to finish those last few levels on Perfect Agent, until I was 21 and had picked up the game on 360. I've never felt such happiness before or since. :slol:

But the N64 was without doubt one of the greatest consoles. I had so many good memories with it, with so many games. Here's a few of them:

Super Smash Brothers - started off an obsession. Unlocking Captain Falcon and, at the time, not having a clue who he was, signalled the beginning of a beautiful relationship. This was the game I played obsessively while I waited for the GameCube to come out. News that they were working on a sequel was unbelievably exciting. Long story short, the game gave me a lot. Vs. 3 friends, or when no-one was available vs. 3 level 9 bots in a 99 stock match. Outstanding game.

Ocarina of Time - I've owned this game on multiple consoles, played through it more times than I'd care to remember and have most of it down to a fine art at this stage. Few things will ever beat the feeling of beating the Spirit Temple for the first time and everything that followed. Also has an incredible Koji Kondo soundtrack. As does it's sequel...

Majora's Mask - I got this for Christmas one year, and it did not disappoint. I'd been reading about it in N64 magazine and had to get hold of it, just to see how Nintendo could possibly top OoT. But they somehow managed it (IMO of course). It's twisted, and suits my sensibilities to an absolute tee. I still try and play through it once per year if I can.

Super Mario 64 - We have an N64 at the place I'm staying right now, and I cracked it out the other day and blasted through the first quarter of the game with no idea that it was about to turn 18. How many other 18 year old games are as easy to play as this is?

Goldeneye - Much like everyone else, I had epic fun with the multiplayer on this, and Perfect Dark. I also remember unlocking 00 Agent years after the N64 was a defunct console and being properly proud of myself. Loved this game.

Diddy Kong Racing - Calling it right now, better than Mario Kart 64. So much fun.

Banjo Kazooie - Admittedly, I didn't play this at the time and only got involved when it came out on the 360. It held up exceptionally. Rare had a great thing going on the N64.

Donkey Kong 64 - That strawberry floating King K Rool boxing match did my nut in, but was easily balanced out by how immense the rest of the game was. And Jetpac!

I'll end my post here because I imagine it's already quite boring, but I need to give honourable mentions to Turok 2, 1080 Snowboarding, F-Zero X, Earthworm Jim 3d(underrated!), Hybrid Heaven, Mario Party, Mario Kart 64, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Pokemon Stadium and Pokemon Stadium GS.

Incredible console.

I only got my N64 in about 2004 but I've certainly loved it's library of games since then. Some of my personal favourites include:

Mario 64
Goldeneye
The World is Not Enough
Excitebike 64
Wave Race
Pilotwings
1080 Snowboarding
F-Zero X
Banjo Kazooie/Tooie
Perfect Dark
Mario Kart 64
Pokemon Stadium
Starfox 64
OoT
Majoras Mask

It made it the console of choice when I was at Uni. Endless, endless games of MK64 and Goldeneye.

We had three proper controllers and one third-party one. The standing rule was that whoever won each game had to then switch to the third-party controller we had. I never admitted to anyone that I preferred it because the C-stick was so much more usable. :shifty:

I got this pad for free from Electronics Boutique with Perfect Dark:

I think I actually preferred it to the official one.

That pad was perfect for playing ISS64 with  I hate footy games, but I loved ISS64, just played like a really slick arcade game.

The Makopad/Powerpad Pro was probably the first ever third party pad I used that was every bit as good as a first party controller, and actually preferable in some cases.

My, you were late to the party. It can be quite difficult to go back to some of the games now and see how they've aged but looking at them as they were, almost every single one you've named is a masterpiece.

I was at the perfect age during the N64 era to be able to pick up (almost) any game and get hours and hours of enjoyment out of it. I'd only need (or be allowed, I guess!) to buy a game every so often, and they always ended up lasting me months, if not years. I remember getting to the Water Temple in Ocarina, rising the water level to the top, thinking that meant I had "failed", and restarting the game over again from the beginning. I didn't even care, it just meant I got an excuse to replay it again.

It goes without saying that all the classics were immense, but one of my most played games was actually Bomberman 64. I got hours of enjoyment out of that, trying to unlock all the secrets (and it was not an easy task, either).

I honestly have no issue playing games with bad graphics from then.

One of my favourite games ever is Jumping Flash and that was a launch PS1 game which looks like arse.

It's not just the graphics, although a lot of the N64's games have aged particularly badly in that respect for whatever reason. A lot of them simply don't play as well as other games of their genre. I went back to 1080 recently and it feels quite anachronistic.

Never owned one myself. Played a lot at a friends and I was never a huge fan of the controller. Goldeneye multiplayer was great of course.

Yeah, the N64 is my favourite console to collect for. The Clear Red model does look nice... although I am a bit more taken by the Clear Blue! I really like N64 kit; it's tough, looks great and plays well. I got into Japanese N64 gaming a few years ago; before the recent bubble of sky-high pricing on eBay. I like how Japanese N64 titles come with a fold-out controls guide *as well* as a manual. They look great!
