Is this confirmed?

strawberry floating hell, Nintendo just scoring OG after OG, if true. This was so good last year and hugely popular as well.

Do Nintendo not like their fans?

Absolute garbage. Its like Christmas being cancelled.

They should give us a date of when they are actually going to unveil the NX, at least.

This is really going to hit their share prices. I can understand not wanting to get lost in the shuffle of E3, but this is a terrible idea ultimately.

Surely they're bringing back Nintendo Space World. I mean, how else are they actually going to announce the NX? Nintendo Directs work for game announcements but I think a new console needs a physical conference so the press can go and see it up close.

I reckon we'll get a Space World this year, maybe around September, with all the press invited to try the machine and the games hands-on for a couple of days with no other distractions. That way Nintendo get the press to themselves the whole time, and get to show the games off in a much more complete state than they would have been at E3. Hell, to make it easier for the press to attend, they could have individual Space World events in each territory, running concurrently and focussing on that territory's key audiences.

After the mess that was the Wii U announcement it might not be a bad idea to do this. I do wonder if they have basically delayed what they planned for E3 though.

*keep the faith* *keep the faith* *keep the faith* *keep the faith* *keep the faith*

Like others have said, it's fine to skip E3 but they NEED a Spaceworld of some kind, a 3 day Nintendo event with the Nintendo World Champs kicking it off, NX announcement, total focus on them.

The only good thing about this dry season is the amount of software that must be coming to the new system/s.

This better be the case... :dread:

Thats my thinking. I feel like they have almost every egg in the NX basket now. So they are basically silent until its ready to be shown.

Imagine if part the way through a Nintendo World Championship they suddenly dropped the NX and a game into it. Forcing the people playing to try an entire new system and controller in the competition.

Hell's bells, no Direct? What the strawberry floating hell is Nintendo playing at? I'm sure they'll still release a proper cinematic trailer for Zelda though... won't they?

Zelda is going to have to be something special if Ninty are dedicating all there E3 time and space to it. Imagine if it turns out to be some bland empty open world with semi decent dungeons and some type of DLC plan that adds Epona armour and extra Link outfits :slol:

Wait, they're not even doing a Direct!

I assumed they were at least going to spew some gooseberry fool about 3DS being as healthy as ever and advertise Paper Mario as a big deal while learning on Zelda to carry over the 30 minute mark.

strawberry floating hell talk about rolling over and dying.

Truth is E3 isn't the big deal it used to be any more and companies are slowly moving away from it. Companies used to get "mainstream" exposure from the show, but typically what that meant was (and this is a point Jeff Gerstmann has made a couple of times recently on the Bombcast) local news stations going "video games are big deal down her in Los Angeles where E3....". Games are more mainstream than ever now and if you're going to get your news out there it makes more sense in an online space to announce big news when and where suits you. Wherever and whenever Nintendo decides to unveil the NX, it's going to get at least the same amount of focus and attention in the media and with fans as if it had been unveiled at E3. If they show it off at the right time they could get even more coverage, when they're not vying for attention with Sony, Microsoft, Ubisoft, EA and others all announcing news.

Nintendo was the first company to make major steps moving away from E3. They were the first to drop their press conference from an online broadcast and while the last two shows have been poor, that doesn't take away from it being the better way to present news online. There's an excitement about live press conferences sometimes, and they can suit certain announcements (product reveals, surprise announcements) but it doesn't matter when you're announcing or showing off something like Paper Mario U or Pokémon Sun and Moon.

Nintendo aren't going to be a major presence at E3 this year because they don't need to be. The NX reveal will be huge news no matter what, so why should they show their hand early just because E3 is where these things are "traditionally meant to take place"?

If there is a problem at the moment it's communication with the fans, but that is a problem that will be long forgotten when Nintendo starts addressing fans directly, through Directs, once again. It's annoying that we didn't get much from them last year and not much this year, but clearly Nintendo are in a transitional period and putting tasking most of their resources with NX projects. It's a console they need to get right, and if they announce that it will launch with a new Zelda, Mario, Pikmin and more - then all this will be forgotten by the time we know for sure.

(I didn't expect this post to be so long. Probably going to use it for an article now)

E3 was fading away as an event a few years back, but its now the main event of the year and nintendo not even bothering will end them imo.

They probably want to do their own thing and i reckon we will see a proper nx event in autumn showing off the new console.

I suspect the nx will start a new way of thinking for nintendo and that they want to distance themselves from the traditional gaming companies.

E3 is still big, but with Activision, Disney, Wargaming and EA not buying up floor space, EA doing it's own thing parallel to E3 (which down the line could easily distance itself on the calendar) and Nintendo evidently not concerned about taking everything they have to the show, it's clearly starting to downsize once again. EA and Nintendo's plans are about the consumers (EA in bringing them in to play games, Nintendo in giving news directly to them) and that's the direction these shows are going in. If E3 opened its doors to consumers again and became something closer to Gamescom or PAX, then companies wouldn't be moving away.

From his post history it looks like he got a bit frustrated with the usual suspects posting troll flamebait about how glad they'll be when Nintendo goes bust (or whatever).

He's been posting over on SONM so at least we know he's OK. Hopefully he'll come back soon.
