Nintendo are going to have to show some big name games to even batter an eyelid this E3
'Batter an eyelid'?
I think Nintendo will use a lot of the phrase 'RIGHT NOW' tomorrow.
People were saying a lot of Motion+ is obsolete now in the MS thread and I don't think that's the case at all. Motion+ can very implemented into traditional games with some excellent results, right now (or in a couple of months) it's going to have a big impact on Wii games for the next few years. This Natal thing, right now I just can't see it being used in games, in the same way, for at least 5 years. You have to build something crazy up from scratch for it and even if the money/time is there to do it I don't think the developers are there yet. It's taken like five steps forward at once (as long as what we saw is realistically possible and not smoke and mirrors).
The Project Natal thing is just a glorified EyeToy with no more applications that mini-game compilations and this is all we're going to see, just as we did with the EyeToy and although they were fun, Motion+ and the Wii remote have applications that go beyond the mini-games.
Most of the great Wii games dont involve waving your arms around like a loony and in fact require small gestures to complete. The Wii remote has managed to fit into a wide variety of genre's, from sports to music to FPS's and the Natal bar just doesnt have this sort of scope of interaction. Can you imagine using it against a regular 360 controller for a FPS game? or a Golf game? The scope of interaction just doesnt reach this far.
And Microsoft are still just preaching to the converted. The Natal bar gets launded by the 360 community of mainly core gamers but you arent going to see the mainstream market branching out to buy a 360 just for the Natal bar simply because the 360 doesnt have the neutral, all-comers branding Nintendo have had for the last 30 years. It wont turn the market around and it wont get granny buying a 360 which is what Microsoft is really wanting. Instead the 360 market that already exists will pick it up and we'll and up with another Lips/Scene it! scenario where microsoft are doing good things expanding the range of software on the 360 but a bad job of expanding the range of consumers.
Its highly doubtful Bungie will make Halo: Reach a Natal exclusive title!
