The idea that you could conversely use the NES controller with Wii / Wii U is sort of brilliant - that's the same connecter.

But with regards to emulators, they don't always run that well. Nintendo's testing team do a great job of making sure their emulators run pretty much perfectly. My experience of this on Raspberry Pi is mostly audio issues. Considering that costs at least 20 quid plus you need an sd card, ethernet cable, HDMI cable, power supply and all the ROMs (which you can't legally use without owning the cart as well), a case not as nice as this and a controller, this isn't a bad deal. Worth bearing in mind the whole thing is warranted too and Nintendo hardware usually lasts bloody ages. You're saving maybe a tenner setting up your own emu box with the ability to run different systems.

Also, the power supply thing, who cares. A USB power supply or appropriate old adapter / cable will work fine. A third party one can usually be had for a few quid. Manufacturing those endlessly is terrible for the environment. I think the main reason is some sort of tax dodge though, it has to do with an eu directive to include a standardised power supply and Nintendo have historically had a bad environmental record they are trying to change.

Actually sticking up for not including something essential for the product to function in the box :dread:

If it's down to AC adapters being oh so bad for the environment ( :slol: :fp: ) then why not include a usb cable?

Is an inexcusable cheap crap out.

It does include a usb cable if you look at the Nintendo site.

It looks like actually none of the regions include an ac adapter. They already exist in their droves. You can probably even plug it into your TV or another console.

I would bet anyone sitting anywhere in a building is within 10 feet of a suitable usb socket. They all deliver power.

They also do it to reduce cost, so you can distribute the same sku for the whole continent. Then buy an appropriate adapter or use one of you already have it. You're not forced to use the "official" one. That way, the price can be lower for those that don't want to buy their 5th, 10th or more usb ac adapter. And reduces waste.

Literally every power outlet in my house has half to 2x usb power adapters between them and that's after about 5 years of the usb power adapter thing happening. That puts an end to small device power adapters filling landfills forever, and kills the expensive aftermarket for worn out / missing power adapters in the future. Which is good.

So what kind of plug will I need for this thing?

Will one of those white iPhone plugs with a USB socket in them do the trick?

Yup, the same adapter that you probably own at least 5 of in various drawers.

Oh, in that case, it's all ok :)

I have to say, it's about time Nintendo start showing off their back-catalogue of amazing games in a proper way.

I always felt as though the Virtual Console was a very niche service, only for those people in the know.

This would be a five minute wonder. Good idea until you see how bad the games look.

Actually NES games over HDMI look fine, it's just like something like Shovel Night. The games are still great.

Not limited to iPhones either, any USB plug that delivers at least whatever the required amperage (they aren't all the same) is going to be should be fine.

It's pretty much always 500 to 1000 mAh and 5v. Even stuff that says it needs 1000mAh (or 1 amp) works fine with 500mAh. Such as raspberry Pi, various phones. That's all USB Power adapters do.

I'm fact, the 3DS works fine with such an adapter, they just used a custom connector for no reason.

Apple are the same. They bullshit their way around non unifying stuff to maintain dock compatibility and refusing to include separate video output such as mini hdmi. This is the best way.

Yeah it'll look ok, even over an old composite cable my NES looks fine on my TV. That's probably the vast majority of the NES best games as well. There's only maybe a handful missing.

As has been said I would also be all over an SNES version. My only concern is that we'll be looking at 50hz versions of most games. Which is disappointing.

Well seeing as there are no video issues these days just import the US version if they put 60hz ROMs on there. It's all hdmi anyway.

What I meant was, these games are best remembered through rose tinted glasses. The only old games I have on the Wii U are F-Zero and some balloon battle game (from the NES I think). Both of which I played once, never to play again.

Let's just hope Nintendo use the Wii VC games, not the Wii U ones...which are significantly darker...That could be a deal breaker for me...

If that does happen (and I can totally see it happening), at least it would be easy enough to import the US version. No power supply issues to worry with as it's all USB powered.

I'll likely import this if it comes out in Japan for the Famicom games (if they're any different at least).

If not, definately getting this.

If the line-ups are massively different you could always get both.

I'm waiting for the inevitable hack that places an SD Card reader under the cartridge slot to play ROMS.
