This is an interesting concept but it's not really for me as I'd rather just use an emulator if I want to play the games on a big screen from my Comfy Couch™ or even at my desk. I actually quite enjoy playing NES and SNES games on my 3DS as the screen size makes them look good at native resolution and save states make them perfect to pick up and play.

I'd jump at an N64 version, especially if I could buy the American one to play the glorious 60Hz versions of my favourite games. My siblings and I still play the occasional game of Pokémon Stadium (mini-games), Mario Tennis and Mario Kart 64 so it would probably be a better alternative to keeping my over 16 year old N64 connected.

Nope. I've got some that are a lot less and quite a lot of others that are up around 2A (my Pixel C charger is 3A, but that's because its supports faster charge).

Green Gecko wrote:Even stuff that says it needs 1000mAh (or 1 amp) works fine with 500mAh. Such as raspberry Pi, various phones. That's all USB Power adapters do.

Nope...well it depends actually. If you are charging a battery, it'll just do it slower. If you are actually powering something like a Pi, its certainly possible that it won't perform as expected if you give it a lot less amperage than it says it requires.

EDIT - Of course for this thing I don't think it'll really matter, its unlikely I think that it'll require a huge amount of power to run. But people should know that not all USB chargers are equal.

I didn't say they were. The USB standard is 5V or maybe 5.5V. Most USB power adapters that come with substantial devices like phones are at least 500mAh if not more. Nintendo know this and so it will probably draw .5 or 1 amps.

Thus the point of my post being you don't need another one. Not that gooseberry fool USB adapters exist and some fringe devices uses 3A or what have you - an amperage uncommon in power adapters outright, never mind USB. I don't own a single adapter that provides more than 2 amps and I think that's a gigabit network switch. Apart from console/laptop ones. None of which are USB.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

If this thing draws 1A and you have a USB adapter which outputs .5A then no it probably won't work.

Like I said I don't think its likely to require a high powered charger, but people should be aware that not all their USB plug adapters will be the same. Its entirely possible that some will power some things and not others.

The best news to come out of all of this, is that the NES controllers are cheap (£8) and work with the Wii.

This makes the Wii the ultimate Nintendo retro machine.

1. Amazing selection of NES games playable with official NES controller.

2. Amazing selection of SNES games playable with official SNES controller (at least those of us who have the Club Nintendo ones)!

3. Same goes for N64 - playable with the pro-controller.

So for those who are complaining the NES mini isn't more - just get yourself a Wii and you'll have instant access to one of the best gaming libraries of all time...

The UK price is £49.99 and it's up for pre-order at most retailers.

I love how the official product description mentions...

Nintendo wrote:...and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. Each title is sure to bring back fond memories and produce plenty of new ones

...as it reminds me of how much (little) TWA "enjoyed" the game on his recent playthrough  .

Where can I best preorder this from. If I was to preorder from Game for example can I cancel at a later date if a Famicom version is revealed in Japan?

Neat idea for those who don't do emulation or Virtual Console. Shame about the lack of Metal Gear or Bionic Commando.

I'd like to see SNES and N64 versions in future complete with their original packaging.

It's actually the Wii U because you get all the benefits of Wii with the Wii U additions like the GBA VC.

Yep. It's easy to cancel your online orders at GAME and you can do so at any time until it has been dispatched. You money isn't taken until dispatch, unless GAME tells you in advance that it will be taking the money a few days earlier to ensure that there are no problems. This usually happens with highly anticipated items so that those with payment issues can try to resolve them before dispatch and have a better chance of getting the game on time.

Not surprised about Metal Gear. The NES versions are shite.

Contra would have been good. At least the sequel is there though, Super C.

This has entered the Amazon videogame sales chart at number one :o . Okay, so game sales are relatively low at the moment, but still... I am quite surprised.

Y'know, this system is a pretty neat deal. I wasn't a huge fan of the NES (I had the Master System) but fifty quid for the cool mini-console, a pad and thirty games seems very good. Being a tad moany for a moment, it makes me wonder why console manufacturers / publishers charge so much for download versions of old games. How can one digital copy of a SNES game be six quid (or more) for a modern Nintendo console when they can chuck out a complete system like this? This isn't particularly a dig at Nintendo; Sony takes the same approach, too.

Anyway, grump over - this is a nice set for NES fans.

Actually, that's a good point.

Can you access the Wii VC via Wii U, and do you then get the Wii VC games as opposed to the badly emulated Wii U ones?

Zavvi has them at £7.99 too...

Zavvi sometimes gets around these exclusive deals by simply sourcing the products from another country...they did that with the Captain Toad boxset which Argos had an exclusive with...

So tempted by this. A NES was my first purchase when I discovered eBay 15 years ago. I never had the console in the 80s but wanted one so much it hurt.

Of course, many of the feels can be replicated by watching this and not spending £50...

Yes, AXL - you can access the Wii Shop via the Wii Mode of the Wii U and buy Virtual Console games to play in Wii Mode. But... the Wii prices are more expensive than the U versions (Nintendo has never updated the Wii Shop prices; I guess they'd prefer folk to buy the newer versions). Of course, if you have transferred your Wii to your Wii U then you can play any Virtual Console titles that you have in Wii Mode - and you can upgrade to the newer Wii U versions (at a lower cost) if one is available.

Personally, I never have transferred my Wii to my Wii U; I like being able to quickly access my VC games on the older machine.

I approve of this post.

But still - no Kickle Cubicle, no sale.
