Just saw this in town. The very same one was marked as £90 on Tuesday.



OH CEX. What a bunch of splits.

This thing is also in the Top 10 in Amazon (or was yesterday)...which means that 100s of people are paying crazy prices for it.

I wonder if these people know it would be much cheaper to get a Wii, and then download much better NES, SNES & N64 games from the VC.

Anyone that pays £190 for a NES (that only plays 30 games) is strawberry floating mental and deserves to be ripped off.

I think that with these retro mini consoles, a large part is the aesthetic nostalgia. Would that work in future with ugly black boxes of recent consoles?

For the kids that were really young when they came out, yes. There's kids playing a PS4 now that will look back on it in 20 years time with the same nostalgia that we get from that nes.

Interestingly, inside they had a REAL nes for £70.

In the UK it's arguably not even real nostalgia, more like perceived nostalgia of people that weren't there at the time. The Master System outsold NES by about a quarter of a million units in the UK (approx 1.35 million vs 1.1 million) and that's without considering how big the home computer market was in the UK at the time.

NES was my first console so it's real nostalgia for me, even though I was born in 92. It was a hand me down. Duck Hunt was the first game I ever played.

Apologies, that was a pretty broad generalisation. I knew what a NES was but I don't think I saw or played one until around 1994 when I too acquired the system as a hand me down. Growing up everybody I knew had Master Systems, Mega Drives, Atari STs or Amigas.

Gameboy is my Nintendo Nostalgia, was my first nintendo machine until I bought a N64 near the end of it's life.

It's deffo the NES and SNES for me. Those games felt like witchcraft. I never owned either console but wanted them so badly, in that way that almost hurts when you're a kid.

Trying to remember the last time I was genuinely in agony waiting for a game. It's been a long time. Possibly the first Metal Gear Solid on PS1.

Only 1 person i knew had a Master System the rest had Nes, with Mega Drive it was the same.

I had a C64. Most of my friends either had C64's or Spectrums (one weird kid had an Amstrad ).

It wasn't until the Megadrive/SNES era that everyone had consoles, other than a few people having an Amiga or an ST.

I was an Atari ST man myself. I loved it at the time but in hindsight I would have rather had an Amiga. I didn't have consoles until I acquired some hand me downs, a NES and a Master System II when friends upgraded then years later an N64 from a friend who thought there were no games for it.

They booked manufacture in a factory for what is essentially a side product, but massively underestimated the demand. Hopefully this time it's a better situation.

You can't book manufacturing capacity and then just say, "OK we need a million extra units kthx" because the factory gets retooled and re-trained to move onto the next product, a process which costs millions and millions of dollars. Most people don't understand that consumer electronics manufacturers with the major exception of possibly Samsung don't own most of the factories they use. That includes even Apple.
