The idea is amazing in the right hands, when it gets into the wrong hands things like this occur;

Oniichan pls

I can totally see why Nintendo want to distance themselves from things like these. And this is the tame ones I could have posted

If closing it down guts games and prevents content from working then it's a massively dickish move

Oniichan is brutal

I love stuff like that, though. Being able to post about whoever won your match on Smash Bros made the Miiverse stage incredible. You'd get sort of questionable but super artistic drawings of Samus and the like, loads of people slating Kirby for being cheap and everyone pitying meta knight for existing. And you'd get people responding to other Miiverse posts - someone just scribbled "GANON GIVE ME THE SUCC", and then you'd see another picture pop up a few seconds later with a proper detailed picture of gannondorf saying "I'm giving NO-ONE the succ" :slol:

So hang on, does this mean that once Miiverse shuts down, Mario Kart Monday is no more?!!!

And from everything I hear, the Switch has a really crappy online service, which you'll need to pay for?!

I'm sure there's some business reason for it. Probably dwindling Wii U users, combined with the cost of running the servers.

I guess it makes business sense to shutter it, but they could have waited a little bit longer before taking it out back and shooting it in the head.

I doubt it's the server costs. It's far more likely to be ridiculous cost of paying full time moderators to babysit cock pictures.

I was actually warned by Nintendo for posting that a game looked gooseberry fool and I was tired of its crappy icon junking up my home screen. Like not even the icon was at all exciting, just zero effort shovelware. I mean how does a game called "hit the ball" or "shooty space" even get a release?

Anyway this is sad, miiverse was great and actually made feel like people were playing games instead of disembodied racist vitriol. I'm glad it was basically worked into splatoon 2 though.

It's not crap just works in weird ways and is missing some normal features but miiverse being an abnormal, good feature feels sort of sad. They should integrate the message posting functionality with miis into Twitter/Facebook funtionality so it's basically the same thing but those services worry about moderating it, if at all.

Is there a tournament feature in MK8 deluxe? It's pretty sucky if so as I'm not sure why that's being removed from wit u. At the moment our mk community is split and not really sure when it'll sort out as switch is an expensive console, especially with the games.

I didn't really use miiverse much but know a lot of people loved it so it's a shame that they are ending it.

A bit annoyed about them ending tournaments in the wii u version as it's good to be able to play on both systems. Mario Kart Mondays are great fun so will be sad to see that end.

Hope more people move over to switch as we have a good group on Tuesdays too.

I was gonna write quite a lengthy piece about why I love Miiverse. But, to be honest, even tonight I am still too annoyed about it. More so because they've crowbarred in plenty of Wii U and 3DS online gaming functionality termination.

I don't usually resort to this, but it does feel deserved... strawberry-float you, Nintendo.

I may return and post a few positive thoughts tomorrow - but for now that pretty much hits the mark.

It hurts because Nintendo had created something good and now they're closing it down... with absolutely nothing comparable available for the Switch. "Because Facebook".

Nintendo are brilliant and bloody awful in equal measure.

This quite nice. Nintendo has produced a huge (HUGE) picture made up of picture posts taken from the Goodbye Miiverse community.

The picture is massive but you can zoom in to see the individual posts.

I’m still sad that Miiverse is closing. I am growing to love the Switch but, for me, it’s missing that Nintendo feel in terms of little functions and features (i.e. Miiverse, friend messaging, vote channels, badge arcade, street pass and the like). I hope that some of those kinds of ideas can find their way onto the new system.

I was just checking into when this was happening (7th November), and found a list of all games affected, albeit with varying impact.

http://en-americas-support.nintendo.com ... uation-faq

There is a full list on a link on that page.

This caught my eye though:
- Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars (Wii U, Nintendo 3DS): While users will still be able to play Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars and complete all 88 levels in the main game, the Community feature will be discontinued, preventing players from sharing levels and receiving additional Stars. As there will be a limit to the number of Stars that can be obtained, not all objects may be unlocked from the Workshop.

They are continuing to sell the game after the end of Miiverse.
I hope for any issue like this they put a message on the eshop, as I'd be a bit pissed off to find the game I had just purchased would have content that was permanently locked due to the shutdown of miiverse.
Seems a bit crap to not offer a patch that tops up the stars once you've hit the in-game maximum you can get in the non-miiverse scenario.

The thing I'm confused about is what's supposed to happen to the bloody main screen of the console.

You can continue to use your Wii, Gecko, but the U add-on will no longer work.

I guess it'll default to the offline version where you just see 'posts' acting as UI tips for the system. Shame as it was oddly relaxing to watch all the drawings crop up with that ambient music
