That song playing during the Kid Icarus Uprising trailer sounds exactly like the theme from Love Boat, an obscure 80s soap opera on a cruiseship. Anybody remember that?

I'm seeing a lot of ooing and aaaahing from everyone that got the opportunity to hold the thing but it looks like we would have to wait till (maybe) GDC to see 3DS gameplay footage, some of those still screens release to the press look amazing, there's a possibility it murders the Wii in terms of performance but I have to believe to see it. How ironic would it be if their handheld has a better benchmark than their flagship home model.

It's a newer version of the Kid Icarus theme that was playing :)

I was going to start a topic about how my interest in gaming, which has been at a steady decline for the last 4 years or so, had declined to a negligible state. What a show though!

Let's start with Zelda. Personally I think the graphics look a bit duff; halfway between WW and TP doesn't work for me and it looks more like a C-class Gamecube platformer than anything else. (Tak and the Power of the Juju anyone?) Control-wise though, it's what TP should have been. Both DS Zelda games have shown what innovative controls can do for the series so hopefully we'll be seeing similar things out of this. One thing that for some reason got me excited was when the translator mentioned about being able to control the bombs like bowling in Wii Sports; imagine the scope for puzzles with such intricate control method for each item!

Kirby looks fantastic but I can see it going the way of other home console Kirby games, and at the end of the day it doesn't look particularly ground breaking. The lack of originality applies to DK too. Quite why they need so many 2D platformers I don't know, well actually, I do know

Reggie wrote:14 million units worldwide for New Super Mario Bros Wii

Golden Sun looks to do everything I ever hoped for - i.e. be very similar to the first two  . Massive contradiction on my part to what I've just said but I suppose the Kirby and DK games will be revered by fans of those series too.

Obviously the real star of the show is the 3DS. I literally cannot wait to play it. When Reggie mentioned that the DS has been around for 6 years it made me realise just how much value for money I've had out of the original DS I still use, and it's been by far my favourite system of those years. I can't think of much to say about the 3DS that won't already have been said but one thing's for sure: if it's not region looked I'll be doing my best to get come launch day in whichever territory is first.

I really hope it's not too similar to the others. I got a character eternally stuck behind a crate after 30 hours of gameplay in the first game :(

People need to realise, this was always on Nintendos gameplan.

Expand the userbase MASSIVELY with Wii and DS, then smack some awesome console out there which will please gamers and non gamers alike, people are familiar with Nintendo now, even non gamers so for a decent price they'll buy the next console.

That and Nintendo have finally unleashed some gems for the gamers even for Wii, Kirby, DKC, Metroid, Zelda. The real star comes with the 3DS, they've got an install base large enough now who are slowly getting into gaming, so they can truely push them to become proper gamers, while still catering for their more casual titles.

Just look at some of the games announced already for it.

It says something about how good a conference it was when a new Zelda is the most disappointing thing on show. Well, the first half hour was pretty gooseberry fool but it's amazing what a couple of gorgeous looking 2D platformers and a Warren Spector helmed Mickey Mouse game with an interesting concept can do.

For all the talk of changing Zelda up and making it fresher, this control scheme they've developed won't freshen anything up if it's still the identical dungeon fetch quest the series has never truly tried bothering to stray from at all. That's why it's become stale and I can't see quasi-cel shading and item specific gestures alone going any way to change that.

Kirby and DK, goddamn.

The 3DS sounds interesting but the whole 3D part of it might prove to be a hard sell since it's going to have to be something you experience first hand. Want to see what developers can do with it first. Plus it seems like something they've come up with to demolish the PSP for a laugh.

It sounds like they're making the "first Zelda" with this one, based on the plot they're talking about. The origin of the Master Sword!

Everything about the screens and the video of the level also suggest the dungeons are out, or at least changed. That area looked like an open field, something like Kokiri Forest or Hyrule field, but yet also was a dungeon, with doors and bosses. It looked amazing, and was the exact direction I was hoping the series would be going in.
