I'm very keen to see how Samus proceeds from there. There's a mountain of potential for some quite interesting plots, enemies, locales etc in any game that follows Fusion. I just want them to use it.

That would pit Samus against the Federation. And seeing how much focus the Metroid games put on shooting stuff, it would probably mean fighting them.
Up until now, Nintendo has avoided shooting people in the Metroid games, you shoot wildlife or Space Pirates and I can't see them change that anytime soon...

Still, interesting thought though!

Wish the series would continue onward from Fusion but the reasoning behind it is probably down to Nintendo not wanting to put Samus back into the blue suit because the orange one is somewhat iconic. Also after Other M I don't want there to be a follow up to fusion because of how story heavy such a game would be.

It's good for Nintendo that Metroid has quite an open timeline, the games never really make it clear how far apart the time line is at times. Obviously it is easy to figure out that Metroid II, Super Metroid and Other M all happened right after each other but then you have the likes of the prime games and fusion where it is apparent that a fairly large amount of time has passed since the previous installment.

From what I know the Metroid Timeline is:
Metroid
Zero Mission (though a remake it adds events that happen after you beat mother brain)
Metroid Prime Trilogy and Hunters (not sure if hunters comes before, after or in the middle)
Metroid II (Metroids made near extinct)
Super Metroid (Starts not long after Samus gives baby metroid to space station)
Other M (I'm sure Samus says that weeks passed between the battle with mother brain and the bottleship incident)
Fusion (which could easily be set any period of time after other m)

That's got me thinking, isn't there a plot hole with Fusion and Other M. In Fusion Samus ends up indirectly destroying all the metroid clones (all but one anyway) because the SA-X followed her, yet in fusion it isn't suggested (from what I remember) that she knew about the fed cloning metroids which is odd because after other m she would know that the fed are doing dodgy metroid cloning experiments. Unless she did know but didn't care because it was the DNA from the last infant metroid that saved her life when she was infected with the x parasite.

I've just done that bit and it drove me nuts...BOOST UP YOU BITCH!

Parksey wrote: It would help if you listed what bosses you had done so I could try and fathom where you are? I only replayed the game about six months or so ago so should.hopefully be able to help.

EDIT - Ah, are you in quite a tall, narrow-ish vertical chamber with Chozo statues?

Yeah somewhere like that. The game told me I have to go to what looks like a small room, and before there is a snowy tall chamber with a statue at the bottom, some platforms to get to the top then a long room with a statue at the end (which when you scan says the ice has come from its mouth). In that room are 4 chozo heads on the wall, 3 of which are flawless and one breaks when you morph bomb it, revealing a switch which then lets you into the next room. Thats the bit i'm stuck on, its a side on ball bit and theres a column blocking my path which wont blow up. I guess I either need better bombs or to power up the column somehow.

I really dont want to use a guide as half the fun is figuring it out. The only doors I havnt passed in the other areas are purple and white marked.

Perhaps you would be better PM Pell. He's the expert on Metroid Prime.

I'll give it another evening of trying to figure it out, then resort to PMs.

I will beat it!

I went to every room in every available area, took over an hour, then I went back to the problem area out if pure frustration and found a block right in plain sight that I needed to bomb to progress :fp:

Got the wave beam and super missiles now, this game is just bloody brilliant!

Nobody does games like Nintendo. God only knows how Retro studios managed to do it but this is nigh on perfect so far, I can't believe this is running on a wii, let alone being a gamecube game. It looks crisp as anything and puts everything bar the mario galaxys to shame.

The controls are perfect, somehow the platforming is flawless (why has no other first person game nailed this? Looking at you mirror's edge).

I want to drop everything now and play it, so damn good.

It wasn't so rosy for Retro during the development, as I remember.

I can't imagine what this would be like to play with a normal GC pad, i'm sure it was perfect but the wiimote shooting is spot on. If anything it makes it a little easy, but then i'm sure i'll get my arse kicked at some point in the game.

Space pirates :x One charged wave beam to the face soon stuns and sorts them out though.

The gamecube pad wasn't that bad but oh boy it does hurt like hell when you're embroiled in a long boss battle. You don't dare to release the L shoulder button to lose the lock on...

I tried going back to the Cube controller for Metroid and it's a worse game on that pad than with the remote.

I can't go back to GC pad.

Wii controls FTW.

It makes me sad so many other fps style games couldn't match Metroid on the wii.

I compare them all to it, and they all fail to meet the same standard.

Actually, I've never tried, but the multiplayer in Echoes, does the Wii support more than 1 person playing with Wii controls on it?

Yeah, multiplayer.

Unfortunately I never really played it, back then at uni it was all Halo and Battlefront on the xbox, but the few times we did play it was a good craic.

Its really fast action, good fun, bit simple and a bit tacked on, but does what is required.

Nice! I found getting the Thermal Visor really annoying first time around as it never clicked that I could use it to make my escape from that room/area much easier, and instead wondered around in darkness.

Yeah I know. Just picked up this nifty bit of kit and it didn't immediately dawn on me that I might actually need it.

There's like a solid half hour of fighting and platforming in the dark after you get it
