I'd have been all over a Treasure Tracker 2 but as its a port of the first one I'll probably give it a miss. Still a wonderfully charming game though.

It was for sure a content-packed direct! For games there I'm interested in getting:

Definite

Detective Pikachu
Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes
Mario Tennis Aces
Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition

Probably

Octopath Traveller
Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion

Maybe

WarioWare Gold
Dillon's Dead-Heat Breakers
Luigi's Mansion
Okami HD
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Super Smash Bros.

I'm super happy that Mario Tennis has got a simple rules mode, I was getting worried that it'd be broken with all those gimmicks. Hopefully the balancing will be good. Also, playable Chain Chomp?!

Travis Strikes Again is looking stylish as, can't wait to get that. Probably the most interesting game there in the direct.

In terms of third-party support yes. 1st party wise, not as much. The only "big" title they've really announced is Smash and that's no BOTW or Mario, no matter how much some people wish that it was. This very much seems like Nintendo stepping back a bit this year in terms of their biggest titles, which is fine after last year. Still, plenty to look forward to and I'm holding out hope for Pokémon making this year and being their big christmas game.

I'll will probably get Smash by the way, I've just never had the love for it that a lot of people do. I'm hoping it's not a port (BOTW Link would suggest not) and that we get a nice well rounded roster with a few nice non-Nintendo characters and the bare minimum of "generic anime sword person" from Fire Emblem.

Smash is on same the level as Zelda and Mario in terms of appeal and sales. Infact, you could argue it's bigger than Zelda.

Melee was the highest selling Gamecube game, Brawl outsold both Galaxy games, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword on Wii and the Switch entry was only slightly outsold by Mario 3D World.

I was hugely relieved to see that too. The gimmicks looked interesting but it will all depend how it works together. At the very least the game seems to be full of content-single player story mode and a fleshed out online both big pluses.

When they announced it I initially said to myself, "don't need to purchase this again" but then they hit me with new content based on Odyssey. Depends on how many new levels that amounts to. 40 would work for me.

Also...

Definite

No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again
Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion
Smash

Probably

Luigi's Mansion
Okami HD

Maybe

Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition

Suppose it'll come down to how much it is and how much extra content there is, only saw New Donk city in the trailer. Certainly other games to buy/consider first for myself.

Really hope Smash is a new entry and not just a port of 4. Feel like if it was a port they'd have been clear with it though, that and BOTW Link implies he's getting a new moveset (Stasis would be great fun, and I'm calling it now that he'll steal Robin's gimmick with the Master Sword wearing down and being replaced by a normal one over time).

I think Smash is going to be a new entry.

If it was a port, they could surely have got it ready for release by now and assuming it's a holiday release this year, it will have been 4 years since the last one.

I also don't think they'd have revealed it like that if it was just going to be a straight port. The use of BOTW Link was clearly deliberate too. I'm sure it'll be using the Wii U engine, but it will have enough new content to be considered a new entry.

This is how its looking for myself currently with what we saw tonight,

Definitely:

Okami HD (Summer 2018)
Octopath Traveller (July 13th)
Dark Souls: Remastered (May 25th, network test coming soon)
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (July 10th)
South Park: The Fractured But Whole (April 24th)

Maybe:

Detective Pikachu (March 23rd)
Luigi's Mansion (2018)

Probably not:

WarioWare Gold (July 27th)
Dillon's Dead-Heat Breakers (May 25th)
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Junior's Journey (2019)
Kirby Star Allies (March 16th, update March 28th)
Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido (June 8th) (also on 3DS)
Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes (2018)
Mario Tennis Aces (June 22nd, plus pre-launch online tournament)
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (July 13th) (3DS version also coming)
Undertale (Coming eventually)
Little Nightmares Complete Edition (May 18th)
Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition (May 18th)
Arms Global Testpunch 3-day event (March 31st)
Splatoon 2
- European Championship March 31st
- Ver 3.0 late April
- Octo Expansion paid DLC single-player (Summer 2018)
Super Smash Bros. (2018)

(List shamelessly copied from OrangeRakoon)

Should be a good first half to the year for myself, may not even get round to Detective Pikachu and Luigi's Mansion as I'll probably have my hands full with my the 5 definite games I'll be getting.

Only ever so slightly disappointing thing I've thought is we're not getting both South Park games, would have thought a double pack would have gone down a treat. Unless it is going to be included and they just opted not to say.

Unless you do Mario maker

Given the amount of Wii-U to Switch ports we've gotten/are getting I'd be a little disappointed if they stopped now before bringing over stuff like New Super Mario Bros U or Pikmin 3. They've done most of what people want, there's maybe another dozen or so they can bring over so they might as well finish the job.
