I've loved Nintendo for as long as I can remember but that was embarrassingly bad.

The Wii stretched my patience with the company wafer thin but right now it's ready to break. I find it increasingly worrying that I mostly use a machine I spent about £300 on to play ROMs of old Nintendo games.

There are 7 (I think) exclusive Wii U games between now and the end of the year. Not really sure they need to bolster the schedule that much.

I decided to sleep on it, and see what I thought this morning. I thought about it in the shower. I thought about it over breakfast. And I have thought about it on the train to work.

Overall, Very disappointing and underwhelming. While I didn't expect them to drop a load of megatons, I did expect them to announce at least one major Wii U title we hadn't heard of before. Except Zelda, there is nothing for Wii U in 2016.

• What was Reggie blathering on about at the start about Nintendo's 'transformation'? There was nothing in this event that hinted at a transformation. Unless that fact they didn't announce many new games was part of it...

• Starfox looks really bland. Is cockpit on the gamepad really the best innovation they could come up with? Just look at what Affordable Space Adventures did. Nintendo rarely make a duff game, but there was nothing about this that grabbed me.

• Promoting a celebration of 30 years of Mario, yet failing to show any of a Mario game that hasn't been shown off outside Japan (Mario and Sonic at the Rio Olympics). Mind-boggling.

• Where were the third party titles? I know Nintendo have lost the support of most of the major publishers, but they didn't even show off any eShop/Indie games. And some of the third party titles they do have (Devil's Third/Fatal Frame) weren't even mentioned!

• They didn't even mention a virtual console line up. A schedule of titles to fill the gaps would have been appreciated.

• Not showing any of Wii U Zelda was a big mistake in hindsight. They must know the line up was thin, so to not even show off a one minute trailer of new footage was a mistake. At least it would have given us some hope.

• I would caution those expecting NX to launch with a host of triple A Nintendo franchises. Development on the Wii dried up just like it is now, and all they had ready for the launch of the Wii U was Nintendo Land. I don't expect NX to launch until Christmas 2017. That is going to be a very barren two years.

I am a big Nintendo fan, but their strategy (or apparent lack of one) is often mystifying.

They should definitely have done some sort of indie / smaller games reel. There are loads coming.

The presentation was very weak. But this seems to be going a bit over the top.

You make a lot of good points, 'Celer. It was indeed a real disappointment.

It was a strangely put-together presentation; it was almost like a draft version that needed another few days of editing. There seemed to be long-ish talking bits about transformation and tunnels (Shiggsy was getting a bit carried away there), poorly edited game sequences (they made Starfox look bad; wereas there are plenty of interesting aspects) and a few good points (the muppets!). New stuff from second / third parties and indie games were completely absent.

One aspect that needled me was Animal Crossing. The 3DS Home Designer game looked sort of okay and I like the idea of using the NFC cards (I will probably get it :fp:  ) but as for the Wii U "Festival" game... a board game?!? My god, didn't they get the message with Boom Street and Mario Party? *No-one* wants that! I would have preferred them spending the development money on new stuff for the 3DS game! Hurrumph.

Oh well, we move on to fight another day. Hang-on... what's this...

This was Nintendo crawling into their cocoon before being reborn into their NX butterfly next year.

The editing of the digital event was one of the main reasons why I'm so down on it. For example, the Wooly World segment. You have some chick explaining about how she knitted Yoshis. It went on forever and should never been in there. The developer segments should have been reduced to side videos released on Nintendo's YouTube channel. They had no reason to dedicate so much time to those during the event.

I have to say I feel really sorry for Next Level Games. That game looked way better in the Treehouse presentation. I'm not convinced it is deserving of so much hatred.

This SMTxFE game looks like weeboo garbage of the highest order. I can't believe they're even bothering to localize it.

Is there a big difference between this and the Persona games people seem to adore?

I think the game looks quite good. I'm looking forward to getting it. An glad they localised it. At least there giving people the option to play it.

I'll be fair this does look like a good game. But it's going to alienate a lot of people. It's far too Japanese for its own good, especially for a Fire Emblem game.

I think the negativity for SMTxFE is due to how it was presented during the event. I don't think there was any kind of explanation; even the title was unknown. I didn't know what they were showing and assumed it was a new game for 3DS... it was so poorly positioned.

It's even odder because the Nintendo Directs are normally sharp, snappy and clear. Hopefully they'll take a step back and re-group for the next Direct.
