The cost justification had already been made several times in this thread. Just look up craft components on Amazon, this stuff isn't cheap.

I think the more difficult one to justify the cost is the robot kit. In my mind, it needs to be a decent length (and decent) game packed in to justify the price tag.

For the physical side of the product, I think you can compare it to things like this.

The variety pack comes with like 5 different builds right? I reckon it comes out as expensive (of course there is Nintendo tax), but not "massively" inflated.

Also lol at this I found on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Paperpod-Cardb ... 008M541HI/

(Here are some more cardboard models at not the cheapest prices: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Leolandia/b/?i ... =Leolandia )

The cart cost isn't the strongest of arguments as otherwise downloadable versions on Switch would be significantly cheaper than the physical ones, which they aren't. Which drives me mental, it's absolute bullshit. Admittedly this is a total different argument.

I think the carts are legit expensive to produce, and then they are just profiteering off digital sales. It's partly why I got physical whenever I can.

I dunno if the reaction's really negative, I think people are just saying that you might have missed some contributing factors to the expense.

When you factor in the cost of making the game and the cost of the cart, you're probably looking at a market value of about £30 for that bit. Then a build-your-own-toy kit - and this one seems to be well on the upper end of quality of these kits, I mean, check out that castle OR linked  - is typically about £20.

So yeah, it is 'expensive' in the sense it could probably be a tenner cheaper and still be solidly profitable. But I don't think your call of £25 is very realistic, admittedly I'm guessing a bit but I think at £25 neither Nintendo nor the shops selling it would be making much in the way of profit.

Saying that...

This is a 100% justified complaint about Nintendo pricing. They still just don't 'get' online, and it's insane that they sell stuff on the e-shop for essentially the high street RRP. Literally mental, particularly as on the Switch you're definitely having to buy memory cards if you use the e-shop regularly, which actually makes the e-shop option work out as marginally more expensive.

Totally agree. I honestly hate it, sure Zelda BOTW is something laughable like £57 on the e-shop. Definitely more expensive than I've seen in shops anyway. Try to avoid digital wherever possible for that reason. Plus you can trade in physical so works out much cheaper if you're that way inclined.

The only reasons Sony and MS are better is because of their more generous sales - the standard pricing on their digital stores is equally ridiculous. £60 is standard for new games.

Yeah, that's mental too. I don't understand where the incentive is to go digital.

Orange is spot-on; MS and Sony sell new games on their Stores at equally high price points, although they are far quicker to later run discounts than Nintendo is. But, yeah, this aspect is probably outside the scope of this thread :) .

Managed to get the song from the bloody trailer stuck in my head all day, despite having only watched it twice.

Isn't the argument that if they undercut physical releases on digital platforms then physical retailers would refuse to sell their games?

At one time maybe that train of thought had a part to play, but I don't think it holds much water these days. Console pricing of digital vs physical is all over the shop and places like Game, who are struggling, are not really in a position to make demands in today's market. Digital games buying, even at full price, is on the rise so Game either stock new releases and go up against digital even when they're cheaper, or lose potential sales.

One thing that just struck me, doesn't Yoshi on the Switch have some kind of cardboard theme?

Yep it does. The levels have a cardboard diaroma thing going on.

However, as it’s being made by Good Feel, and Nintendo seem to be making efforts to make Labo a separate thing, I can’t see it having a connection.

I wonder if any future toy-con may have a feature to make use of amiibo? Building on Rex's idea of Yoshi cardboard, supposing you could get some kind of Woolly World diarama toy-con that had extra features if you popped a Woolly Yoshi amiibo onto the joy-con?

If it takes off in popularity, it could be amazing where Labo goes!

Some folk have odd reactions to Labo. Just looking over at Retro Collect and someone is saying that Labo is "Amiibos made of card" :fp:  .
