I think the biggest issue is if kids can be arsed to spend the time needed with this in an age of instant gratification. This might be the thing that prevents it from being a hit. It will be worth it if it inspires any of them though.

Well all the people I know who got Lego dimensions for their kids ended up having to build the portal for them at the start of the game because the kids got bored, and that's only half an hour's work. I can't see many little gooseberry fools having the patience to build the piano so a lot of parents will be making them.

But isn't building them most of the point

You'd think. As TWA says, kids are used to apps and gooseberry fool these days with everything just happening for them.

I thought they got the portal wrong in Lego Dimensions though, it did take far too long to build. My boy adores lego and he even he just wanted to get back into the game. They would have been better designing it as a fairly simple thing to start with and as the game progressed then you built on extra stuff to it which then unlocked the new worlds in the game.

Can we just confirm what people are buying?
This has to be more than just cardboard for £60.

What's the contents of the actual package?
I'm not saying the product isn't ok just that I think the price is insane.

So cardboard and a DVD?
It's not aimed at me so I can't comment on how good it will be (the piano kit looks great) to use but that seems like an awful lot for what's in the box. At £25 I could maybe understand but not £60.

I don't want to derail the topic so I'm out but I think you're letting the fact that this is Nintendo sell you something for a massively inflated price.
Maybe a poll is in order to see if people think this is good value or not?

DVD? You get a game on a cartridge that you interact with through your creations.

That is a ridiculously reductive argument. Digital games? They're just some theoretical 1s and 0s. They should be free.

1-2-Switch is still holding its price at about £33, which is fairly telling.

I'm really not sure how you can so completely mis-understand this given all the info. that's, (very clearly), already out there!

As I said I don't want to derail the topic so all I will say is I personally think £60 is a lot for what you get.
If you don't agree then fine, people buy overpriced stuff all the time. The new Atari for example looks like an overpriced piece of nostalgic junk to me but again that's just me.

Not really, no.
That's not what I meant at all and it's pretty obvious.
As I suggested maybe a poll is in order and we can find out if my opinion is at least shared by others or maybe I'm totally wrong I'm fine with either result as this product is not aimed at me. I'm unsure why I'm getting such a negative reaction for simply saying I think it's expensive.

Pre-ordered both kits, I'm definitely very intrigued by it - Not entirely sure I need it at this point but I'd hate to miss out if it does (as it likely will) become hard to track down. I love building model kits and the like so combining that with the Switch looks like a winning combination and it's so unlike anything else on the market.

If the software comes on a cart then we've got the switch physical tax to consider (there are numerous reports about how expensive those carts are).

For the physical side of the product, I think you can compare it to things like this.

The variety pack comes with like 5 different builds right? I reckon it comes out as expensive (of course there is Nintendo tax), but not "massively" inflated.

Also lol at this I found on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Paperpod-Cardb ... 008M541HI/

(Here are some more cardboard models at not the cheapest prices: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Leolandia/b/?i ... =Leolandia )

I guess that's one way of looking at it, Peter. A bit like PS4 games are a plastic case and a plastic disc.

Peter Crisp wrote:...At £25 I could maybe understand but not £60...

You'd be happy to pay £25 for cardboard and a DVD? What criteria are you using to measure value?

Peter Crisp wrote:...Maybe a poll is in order to see if people think this is good value or not?

Oh, Peter.... I think you're trying to twist a few tails  . This product clearly doesn't float your boat but I fear that you've come storming into the topic without looking into the details too much :) .

Thank you for a well reasoned reply.
