If you think about the potential things they could do with this, I wouldn't bet against seeing a Nintendoland sequel that incorporates Labo in certain ways.

Bet they could dream up some interesting multiplayer games

The next Smash Bros is going to be a melee in more ways than one.

Biodegradable too.

All that remains is for Nintendo to restrict supply to create a 'buzz' and spoil it all.

How long before someone make an adult sized cardboard iron man suit to use with the robot pack?

Would be cool if they make a multiplayer element for the robot one. Imagine the tournaments, all these people wandering around in their customised cardboard robo-suits.

That actually does sound interesting. Make the robot and smash down a building in the quickest time but not only do you have to smash it fast as possible but you need to know what corners to cut when assembling the actual unit. Theres a PAX stage show in there somewhere.

What if it rains during your rooftop Switch Labo party? All that soggy cardboard ruined :(

I was sceptical until I watched the trailer, which makes it look ridiculously inventive. I'm apmost certainly not going to buy any of it, but that's not a problem, as it obviously isnt for me.

It probably doesn't appeal to gamers like us - at the moment, I'm playing super-serious grown up important dead cool stuff like Assassin's Creed and Nioh - but there's still a little tingle seeing how you can make stuff and try it out. Kids love that sort of thing, just like I played with Lego, K*Nex, Meccano and all when I was young too.

How is it different from making basic models on your own? Well there's the software aspect - presumably the game-ification of it all is where it differentiated from, say making a cardboard fishing rod and pretending to catch fish or hooking up bits of paper. The racing one will likely have A.I. opponents to race against. The kids' imagination is still filling in blanks, but the software will push the boundaries of that maybe a little bit further. It will make it more tactile and engrossing, in theory.

If though it isn't for me, you have to appreciate how completely left-field it is. As gamers we ask for new ways to play, and then moan when it isn't exactly what we want or explicitly aimed at our own interests. It's not like the kids who own a Switch will solely play this, they'll probably have Zelda and Mario as well.

It's something genuinely different and unexpected. I'm not sure how anyone can be critical of it as an idea. As others have said, how it's put into practice on the business side is another thing entirely.

I have a snagging suspicion that it will be too expensive, too limited in terms of number of different sets and games or the software quality will be similar to 1-2 Switch rather than, say, Nintendoland and Wii Sports. I have a feeling they might rely too much on the making, building and using aspect rather than the games. It will still be a great idea, combining those things and game software in a new and interesting way, but the software itself may not hold up. It's going to be aimed at kids so you might not get the most comprehensive and in-depth stuff, but depending on the price tag you're going to need something that isn't a case of building and playing for an afternoon and then never going back.

I read something about cardboard and was like 'what the actual strawberry float'.

I'll check out the video later.

Need to read back through this thread. Seems an intriguing concept.

I think this is genius. It could be massive.

Describing it as complete wank is puzzling I have to say. Even from an xbox fanboy.

While this is something that doesn't appeal to me at all I can see kids utterly loving this.

You have to admire Nintendo for trying something a bit bonkers, I couldn't see Sony or Microsoft trying to pull off something like this.

Personally I've always preferred the 'complete wank' to its unfinished counterpart.

On further inspection I say strawberry float it. Not enough Chief and putting it together won't unlock a score so I'm out :dread:

Probably not even going to be 30fps :dread: :dread:
