The NX discussion seems to be spreading out into multiple threads so I thought it was time to condense it all into one thread whilst summerising everything we know. I'll keep the thread updated everytime new news breaks until the official reveal. for now let's look at everything we know.

THE NX SYSTEM

Confirmed
- The system will launch in March 2017
- The system will be a dedicated gaming platform with a brand new concept, what this concept is, is still unknown at this point
- The NX will become part of the “new Nintendo account membership service that encompasses smart devices and dedicated videogame systems”

Image

- The Nintendo NX WILL NOT be at E3 2016, the system and games will be shown at a later date prior to launch
- Nintendo has confirmed that, as of now, NX is still just a codename.
- The system will not be sold at a loss

Rumours/speculation
- The system's power is believed to be comparable to PS4.
- The console will be a 'Hybrid' and will be a successor to both the Wii U and 3DS
- The controller will feature a screen much like the Wii U gamepad. Patents released suggest this and it was reported in 2014 that Nintendo were making a deal with Sharp to see them incorporate Sharps free form displays in future hardware
- The system may use a form of cartridge as opposed to discs for its games

THE NX GAMES

Confirmed
- The Legend of Zelda will launch simultaneously on Wii U and NX in 2017, Wii U version is the focus of E3 2016
- Kimishima clarified that the reason NX is releasing after the holiday season is because they want software to be ready for launch, and also to continuously release titles after launch.
- Koei Temco has added NX to its list of supported platforms

Rumours/speculation
- Pikmin 4 was confirmed to be in development and close to completion by Miyamoto last year. It's believed this is going to be a launch window NX title.
- Bandai Namco are working on several NX titles including a port of Smash bros Wii U
- At least 4 Wii U titles are being ported to NX in time for launch window (Mario Maker, Smash 4 and Splatoon are 3 of the rumoured titles)
- Destructoid reported that Nintendo is helping to fund Beyond Good and Evil 2 to secure it as an NX exclusive. Ubisoft requested Destructoid remove the story from the website which is unusual for a publisher unless the story had an element of truth?
- The NX will launch with a big new 3D Mario game. In 2014, Miyamoto suggested, but did not confirm, that the next major Mario game will be reserved for new hardware.
- Retro are rumoured to be working a new IP rather than a follow up to Metroid or DKC
- Luigi's Mansion.3 is rumoured to be in development

Not much in the way of concrete information but with Dev kits being distributed to third parties and the system less than a year away from launch, we may see more information leak over the coming months.

The thread was starting to get messy so its better to have a fresh thread until someone makes the official thread after the reveal

The complete quote from EA is:

Talking to the BBC, Soderlund commented: "I personally and the company are huge fans of Nintendo, they're the reason why I started making games. We're in constant communication with them and when they come to market something - and if it makes sense for us - we'll be there."

It's hard to call either way but it certainly makes it sound like they don't have much support currently planned. Kind of a wait-and-see attitude, maybe?

A nothing at launch attitude, then. Boy, that'll spur sales. :simper:

EA will probably see how the launch of NX goes, maybe throw out a port or 2, test the waters. EA should at least bring the next Star Wars titles to NX

EA did exactly the same thing with the Wii and there was a similar situation with the DS and 3DS.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

When Nintendo finally reveal the NX they need to knock it out of the park with a strong line up of games and a system with enough power to run 3rd party AAA's. With enough positive buzz and a successful launch they'll be able to get the likes of EA on side again.

I wonder how long they are going to wait until they officially announce this though? They can't leave it too late as they'll want enough time to drip feed information and get the hype building

They supported all three straight out of the gate, they dropped support for 3DS early when it was clear there was no market for the games they make there.

EA showed support to Wii U from day one too, again nobody bought their games so they dropped support.

EA said the same thing about VR, they aren't supporting that until they can make money from it. I believe that even in the days of SNES that EA games didn't set the world on fire, where as on Mega Drive they sold huge amounts, I even associate EA games as Mega Drive games. Historically EA games have never sold well on Nintendo hardware.

In that case they are certainly reactionary, many publishers have this reserved attitude towards Nintendo which is fair enough, sadly the other problem is competing with Nintendo themselves.

I don't think publishers care about that in the slightest. Publishers don't shy away from the XBO because MS will be publishing Halo and Forza, or the PS4 because Sony will be publishing Uncharted and GT. Publishers don't want to put games on the Nintendo consoles simply because they don't feel the market is there. As discussed previously, if the Nintendo games were such a big hit, the Wii U would by flying off the shelves so everyone could lap up the Nintendo games.

Yes?

Third party publishers and indies have gone on record saying things like that though. I couldn't find you the quote as it was a generation ago now. The consoles tend to have a high attach rate to Nintendo exclusives and with the Wii not many games, it's part of the brand being synonymous with both the hardware and software and the near guarantee of quality buying Nintendo games with known franchises, especially for families with children. It was Nintendo's official strategy with regards to price and product positioning for "core gamers" as they were known to be a 2nd, alternative console for everyone to play different experiences on.

EA did support the U at launch, suzz, but only in a pretty bare bones way. The three titles were FIFA 13, Mass Effect 3 and Need for Speed U.

FIFA 13 wasn't actually FIFA 13 as it appeared on the PS3/360; it was a port of FIFA 12 and marked up at £50. Mass Effect 3 was a decent port but again, for the £50 cost of an older PS3/360 that was available on those formats for around £20, it wasn't popular. NFS U was an excellent port that contained the PC version textures... but - there's a theme here! - the £50 pricing point for an older game meant that it wasn't going to sell.

Following the infamous "special relationship", things quickly soured between EA and Nintendo, taking an odd turn when EA released FIFA 13, 14 and 15 for the Wii but not the Wii U. That's business, I guess.

Which is why it makes little sense for them to make games on Nintendo hardware, the audience for EA games already have a PS4, XB1 or PC, sadly Nintendo let themselves be trapped in this bubble where they become the other system in a gamer's life and not THE system in a gamer's life.

I hate to admit it, but that is probably true*. I love my Wii U but I do use my PS4 a lot more - not because of "better graphics" or "moar power" but because there is a greater variety. I really enjoy both systems and I wish I had an XBO too :toot: .

* Except for TWA. TWA has the willpower to be faithful to the U
