Nintendo Online Family Group setup

I've got a family online group set up, and I'm adding various family members.

It's fine if they're new to online.

However, if they already have an online account, what happens? I got an error message when adding someone ("this person is already part of a group" - even though they have an individual online subscription), but it still sent them an invitation.
Also, if it's a child's account (in this case, my grandson), and they already have online, do I just put in their existing details and it overrides their current online subscription?

There doesn't seem to be any info about this, I just wondered if anyone had any experience?

EDIT: They want to join my account as I have the expansion pack

I waited until my sub expired before I joined my partner's family account

That may well be what I have to do I think....

Aw sorry man - if someone drops out I'll let you know. I'm still setting them up/waiting for confirmations.

I can't believe so many members of my family have switches and were quite happily paying for their own subscriptions, or were not aware of all the extras even if you don't play online. There were only 3 of us in my group until I sent some whatsapps when my step-daughter wanted to join. They all came out of the woodwork!
