The Nintendo Switch has now been out for over a year and is finally receiving its first official revision, at least in Japan. The ‘2nd set’ as it’s been called over at the Nintendo Japanse Website, includes the Switch unit, two Joy-Con, and two Joy-Con straps. Missing are the Joy-Con grip, HDMI cable, and AC adapter, which specifically indicates that this is for people that already own a Nintendo Switch unit, and allows Nintendo to sell the set for 24,980 yen (~$226.16) before taxes.

The ‘2nd Set’ can be customized depending on the combination of colors that you want for your Joy-Con or straps, with seven different colors and countless combinations for the set.

It's quite an odd pack... it doesn't come with a power adapter, either. The target market seems to be people who live in a place that has another Switch user already, so that they can share the Dock. And the power charger.

It's not really surprising that it doesn't come with a power adapter given that the New 3DS didn't either. I think it's just becoming the norm for Nintendo handhelds, especially given that it runs on USB-C charging and increasing take up of that on mobile phones people are going to have loads of USB-C charging cables kicking about in fairly short order.

True, Laga, although I'm sure I read that the Switch isn't totes happy with standard USB-C chargers?

Considering the pack doesn't include the dock or the power adapter, the cost reduction of this option appears minimal.

Looking at the Nintendo Japan website the price difference is 5,400 Yen which works out about £36 at current exchange rates, so certainly not much of a saving, especially since an official Nintendo Switch power supply is around £25-30 on its own.

My Switch works fine with my phone USB-C charger, but I suppose that's not a cheap and nasty one, it's one that's been designed to work with sensitive equipment. I've also charged my Switch from my PC no problem using the USB-C cable that came with my Switch Pro controller, but that's an official Nintendo cable.

It's cool you can buy without a dock, but to not include an ac adapter is crazy.

It sounds ideal for my house later this year as I'm considering getting a Switch for my youngest but the price break wouldn't be worth it as we may as well get another dock for the 2nd TV. Given we've got 2 pairs of joy-cons in the house already, the cheapest option for me would be if Nintendo just sold the screen unit.

Amazingly I just started Mario Odyssey yesterday, enjoying it so far just reached new donk city. To me it kind of just feels like more galaxy but with hat stuff but I'm loving buying different clothes and hats for Mario

Cheapest place for a Mario Kart digital code? Any improvement on CDKeys at £45.99?

Speaking of charging - what do people use to charge their Switch outside of the dock? I've used an iPhone charger plug with the USB-C cable from my Pro controller a few times but this doesn't work very well - it doesn't seem to give it enough power to charge and play at the same time but is okay if you just want to charge it up whilst sleeping.

I've got one of the fast charging plugs that came with my Samsung Galaxy S9 but I'm a bit wary of plugging the Switch in to that...

I've used the USB-C charger that came with my old Nexus 6P without any problems.

I take the adaptor out the dock if I'm going away for a few days. But then my dock is on my bedside table, not connected to a TV, so getting to it is quite easy.

I have a usb to usb-c cable too that I bought so I can use that, but most plugs don't give enough power to charge the switch reasonably.

Oh snap they have DKC: TF digital for £39.99...now that's tempting D:

Glad to see a few retailers offering Switch digital codes, it's a field that could desperately do with competitive pricing
