ANNOUNCEMENT DIRECT VIDEO

WHAT IS NINTENDO SWITCH?
At home, Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch Dock that connects the system to the TV and lets you play with family and friends in the comfort of your living room. By simply lifting Nintendo Switch from the dock, the system will instantly transition to portable mode, and the same great gaming experience that was being enjoyed at home now travels with you. The portability of Nintendo Switch is enhanced by its bright high-definition display. It brings the full home gaming system experience with you to the park, on an airplane, in a car, or to a friend’s apartment.

Gaming springs into action by removing detachable Joy-Con controllers from either side of Nintendo Switch. One player can use a Joy-Con controller in each hand; two players can each take one; or multiple Joy-Con can be employed by numerous people for a variety of gameplay options. They can easily click back into place or be slipped into a Joy-Con Grip accessory, mirroring a more traditional controller. Or, if preferred, the gamer can select an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to use instead of the Joy-Con controllers. Furthermore, it is possible for numerous people to bring their Nintendo Switch systems together to enjoy local multiplayer face-to-face competition.

“Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO, Nintendo of America. “It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.”

Developers can design their games supporting a variety of play styles, which gives gamers the freedom to choose an experience that best suits them.

This looks fantastic! :D

Very versatile and I'm really liking the look of Mario especially.

Was that Skyrim being shown on it or was it just a generic fantasy demo game? Hard to tell.

It's Skyrim.

I'm day one as said in other thread.

So it's exactly what the very first rumours claimed. Looks great to me. No real gimmick to it. I mean, the being able to play the games on a TV or on the go won't really ruin games the same way motion controls or two screens did. Should just get regular, great games. Not sure it will really capture the mass market mind.

I was never actually that bothered about the integration between a home console and a portable, as I was generally fine having a 3DS/Vita alongside.

Presumably this means the end of the DS line of handhelds, and perhaps dedicated Nintendo handhelds in general? If so, it means we finally get a proper home console
Pokemon game...

Quite liked the idea of playing it on a plane. Though I guess people with decent laptops can already get home console-quality graphics on the go.

A strong video too. Managed to get the point across quite well in just three minutes.

That was such a great video, wasn't it. Really showed you what the console is all about.

I think Nintendo are going to pull this off

It looks cool, I just can't see how it can have the power to run all of that well and not get red hot in your hands.

I kinda wish I hadn't watched that now. I had a "Shut up and take my money" moment with the Wii U when I saw the initial Breath of The Wild trailer, rushed out and bought one and regretted the purchase very shortly afterward but after seeing that I have to say I'm impressed and I'm at least contemplating getting one but I won't be rushing into anything this time, I'll likely leave it a little while like I did with GameCube.

There wasn't any footage but there was an implication that the new 3D Mario will be multiplayer

Looks decent - not amazing I don't think, but not awful either. Presumably the lack of a d-pad on the portable controllers is that two players can both have the same controls, i.e. a stick and 4 buttons.

I'd never use the portable aspect of it, which is clearly what this video is all about, so they key for me is power and the range of games. At least there's no motion control though, which is a huge plus.
