It uses carts doesn't it? So maybe not that big an issue. Nintendo never been great for digital.

That's fine for physical games, yeah. But I've starting getting more and more of my games digitally recently. I've only got three "Full" Wii U digital games and along with the various VC and eShop games I have (Not many) I'm lucky if I can store more than one of those three at any given time. 32GB is a joke in this day and age.

True, Cheeky. But...

I wonder if we'll be able to download to blank Game Cards?

Compared with Nvidia Shield specs...

NVIDIA® Tegra® X1 processor with a 256-core GPU
CPU (4+4) A57: 1.9 GHz A53: 1.3 GHz
GPU NVIDIA Maxwell 256-core
4 CPU-cores, 64-bit ARM® CPU
3 GB RAM (25.6 GB/s)
16 GB
Two USB 3.0 (Type A)
HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2
Gigabit Ethernet
802.11ac 2x2 MIMO 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi

Looks like a similar spec, an updated version of the X1 in all likelihood rather than the either of the newer Tegra SoC they've announced. It does basically mean that the Switch will be 2 generations of processors out of date almost as soon as its released.

I'd imagine it'll be just like the Wii U, you'll be able to plug an external HDD in to the base station.

Also even though not mentioned, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of adding storage through a MircoSD card. Its an option on the Nvidia Shield afterall.

But would mean a lower cost.

Lower processor now, NEW Nintendo Switch in 2-3 years time with faster speeds.

Yeah like I said, if it is just an updated X1 and Nintendo has got a good deal out of Nvidia then a £199 price point isn't out of the question.

I loved seeing all those photogenic people playing on the Switch in their clean, stylish and massive city apartments, when in reality I imagine it will be mostly used in these conditions:

I did try to hint this a week or so ago on the NX thread - but it was kind of missed I think ;) :P

My guess would be £199 with some sort of pack-in game that shows off the local multiplayer and portability.

They must be kicking themselves they've missed Christmas, I think it'd have been a phenomenon.

The idea that they're using a Maxwell GPU and not going for Pascal doesn't seem right. I know it'd be more expensive but considering how much more power efficient Pascal is it seems a no brainer to go with Pascal on a portable device.

I'm not totally up on tech gear, but isn't even the minimum spec Pascal-based GPU a couple of hundred dollars?

I think Hugo's closer to the mark on potential pricing with $299/€299/£299.

The real fun will be seeing if they (and everyone else) try to up the pound price for games....

The big push I think will be multiplayer gaming on the go, which you can see is quite prominent in video. I'm pretty sure the plan for the future will involve upgradeable base units. It's going to be pushing higher res on TV than the handheld unit, so will draw extra for that anyway.

I think they have the design right too, it looks stylish and desirable, which the WiiU didn't

Not quite how it works, Nvidia take their desktop architecture and cut it down for their Tegra mobile SoC.

Only problem with that is that they don't currently have a Tegra SoC based on Pascal, there's one on their books (as well as one from the next generation) but they've not actually produced anything with it in yet.

The GTX 1050 was announced a couple of days ago as the budget Pascal GPU for $109.

EDIT - Oh yeah, mobile and all that.

Eh? Of course it is. They're not going to release this, and then release a separate handheld.

This is it. This is Nintendo's new handheld and home console.

It's great that all Nintendo teams can focus all efforts on one system only.

But Nintendo are still focusing on the 3DS as well?!

No way this is going to replace the 3DS type device.
Just look at it, that is in no way designed to be taken outside of the home like the 3DS is.

Thanks, chaps. So I guess that, although a cheaper Pascal GPU is being launched, it's a bit too early to see that in smaller (Tegra) form.

Not only does that sound ace, it's a potential system seller, especially now Pokemon Go has whetted public appetite for Pokemon again. Sun and Moon to be the last hurrah for the DS line and a Switch Pokegame for Xmas '17?

Except no. If this were the Sony Switch, or the Apple Switch, or the Valve Switch, millions of people would be interested.
