At the corner of Rockerfeller Plaza and West 48th Street, a golden statue of Mario overlooks the streets of Manhattan to welcome guests into Nintendo's Big Apple homestead
There are two floors full of merchandise and these photos show an overview of most of the ground floor. This first picture is of the cash desks where you can pay for whatever you've decided to buy. At the front of the photo, on the left side, are some Mario notebooks. There were other designs around the store, including NES and Zelda ones, and they're all well made with 3D art on the cover. On that Mario on in particular, Mario is made out of plastic and sits on top of the notebook.
At the back of the shot, on the left, is an amiibo display with various figures available for purchase. The rarer Bayonetta and Cloud ones were there but I decided to wait until I was back in England to order them and save my suitcase space for other purchases. There were a handful of figures displayed in cases either side of the ones for sale but the top floor had a huge display of every amiibo and we'll see that later.
A range of Super Mario clothes and toys make up the ground floor but there are some other franchises, as you can see from the Zelda T-shirt in the bottom left corner. The pillar in the centre has a New 2DS XL, the NSMB 2DS bundle and a few New 3DS XL consoles, including a yellow Pikachu one.
A close up of the merchandise under the Wario picture because Wario is the best
I would have picked up some T-shirts but I've bought a lot of gaming related ones during other visits to America and I was saving luggage space for clothes from other retailers
So many pushies! Between the fact that they'd take up a lot of space and I would spend ages picking even a few, let alone just one, to buy, I didn't buy any of them. If a store like this opens in London, I'll probably take a suitcase with me to work
The bags to the left of the plushies in the last photo were over $100 each. That area was taken up by a Nintendo tracksuit when I visited the store on the first day. It seems that between then and this visit on the last day, this range had move in.
When you can't play a video game, but still feel in a video game mood, relax with a Nintendo board game or puzzle
I've got the checkers and chess set there but I've not seen that version of Nintendo monopoly. The one that I have has a white box and this one seems like a new take on the game.
Along one side of the ground floor, looking out onto Rockerfeller Plaza, are some demo pods showcasing the Switch. Maybe it's because it had been over a week since I played a video game, but Breath of the Wild looked better than I remembered it on those screens
Donkey Kong stands beside the staircase leading to the upper floor. He's next to a barrel into which you can plug a USB cable to charge your devices which makes it a perfect pit stop on your Switch fuelled tour of the city
If you look down the stairs, as you climb them, you'll see Luigi and Toad cheering you on your ascent...
I'll finish this off another night as I want to get in some more Mario + Rabbids and I've yet to watch the Game of Thrones finalé
