It wasn't that bad. I played it all around the house, I took it on holiday, I played it in the car. You couldn't play it in direct sunlight or in the dark, but there was the whole range in between that it worked fine in.

Fine with that just don't make motion controls mandatory on games.

Surely the joy-cons, (terrible name - the only part of the branding I really do not like), must support motion control? Hasn't Just Dance 2017 been announced for Switch?

You can use a smartphone to play Just Dance.

I think that the switch will have 32GB of storage memory and a micro SD card slot like most tablets and phones. The blank cartridges that have been proposed sound pointless as you can get the same result from a high storage micro SD card without buying into a proprietary format.

Just realised this'll be the first Nintendo hardware I've bought for 10 years

Everything on memory cards inside the handheld is fine. Vita manages it, were it not for the prices.

Vita games are relatively small files compared to Wii U games though. Uncharted is around 4GB while Smash Bros for Wii U is 18GB (before DLC).

Letting users attach USB storage to the dock and using MicroSD (possibly UFS although almost certainly not) is the best solution I can see for the problem of storing games locally. Proprietary memory cards sounds absolutely terrible, using a much less common card type kept memory for the PSP, PSP Go and Vita relatively expensive compared to SD so it just left customers with the impression they were being ripped off. Hypothetically, who'd be ok with paying £50 for a 64GB blank game card if you could buy a 128GB MicroSD card for half that?
For much the same reason I hope they go with standard usb for charging the device on the go. I'm sure the dock will use their own connector but they should use usb c for when you're away from the dock.

I have a 16GB card for my Vita because of the prices. If Switch uses SD cards then the increase in game size can be offset against the increased storage for money. You can fit a good few 18GB games on a 64GB or 128GB card - and not every game is going to be that large, I would assume.

I think the chances of Nintendo using a non-proprietary storage medium are incredibly slim.

But the Wii, DSi, 3DS and Wii U all use non-proprietary storage.

At the very least they'll need to offer some way for people to store those game files locally. An awful lot of people still have relatively gooseberry fool internet connections in terms of speed and usage limits. Given that we are likely to see more situations like the Phoenix Wright games on the Switch where publishers decide to go digital only and game sizes are only going up then limiting customers to SD cards for their game collection isn't going to work.

Do anyone think Nintendo saying that they wouldn't say anything more this year about the console is strange?

Even if they do stick with March launch, that leaves them three months to answer the questions everybody is asking: region locking, storage, touch screen capabilities, battery life etc. Shouldn't those features at least get a simple answer right now?

I'm still hyped about the console. I slapped down a preorder at Shopto in case there's a demand like the original Wii. But the lack of information is a bit discouraging?

I like the Vita approach of letting you transfer games between memory card and PC - all my Vita games are on my laptop's HDD, so I can transfer them from there. Something similar would be nice.

I don't see how that's better than just letting you attach a hard drive to the dock.

The storage would be on the actual tablet, not the dock surely?

But lets not forget they also use generic expandable memory.

Expandable memory is just too damn generic these day for me. We should be looking to invest in a more bready alternative. Maybe buy lightly burning the bread with data. After all we know...... What goes on toast, stays on toast.
