I held out for quite a while... I was unsure and wanted to read up on people's thoughts before I jumped aboard!
So... I have setup my machine
. This took way longer than expected because (a) I hadn't realised I had keyed the wifi password incorrectly about twenty times
and (b) I couldn't work out what NNID / Nintendo Account / My Nintendo sequence of codes and passwords I was meant to key in to link up my Nintendo details
.
But, hey... finally got there! My initial thoughts based on only thirty minutes of use are:
+ The console and joy-con have a better build quality than I'd anticipated
+ The screen gives an excellent, sharp image
+ The user interface is clear and clean
+ The Pro Controller is lovely
+ I love the small game cases!
+ The switch between portable and TV play works extremely well
- The eShop looks like it has been knocked up in under ten minutes
- No internet browsing, no Miiverse (which, frankly, I can't quite believe)... and why have we gone back to Friend codes? And then you can't message your Friends? The system features are incredibly basic; a real step back from the Wii U and 3DS
Overall, I really like it. Game-wise I have only played five minutes of Kart and that's excellent; the picture does look sharper running in 1080p than the Wii U 720p version. I can't wait to check the machine out further during this evening! I just hope that Nintendo are beefing up development of the system features; the hardware is lovely and it would be exciting to see the machine running an improved Miiverse and other cool stuff.
