Are you out on anything that uses storage space? I still haven't really decided how I feel about this downloading extra parts of the game that should be on the cart type business. Like I've said before, I've skipped a few generations so things may have changed but I don't really like the idea of buying a game and having to, for example, download the multiplayer separately using up my storage space.

Day one updates have pretty much made this a thing for the majority of games on all platforms now, unfortunately. The online multiplayer being separate is a more acceptable way of doing it imo (although of course still not ideal).

I am kinda used to this on my PS4 - turn on the console and here's another 20 Gb of updates lol - but on the Switch it is a little concerning that the system just doesn't have the kind of storage space that third party publishers are used to playing with.

Naively I had thought that my 128 Gb micro sd card was a massive amount of storage but, with stuff like NBA 2K and Doom requiring sizeable storage space beyond the actual cartridge, it may not be that much, really.

If this is pretty standard in 2017 then Nintendo should be packing their storage drives with 250GB of space, not 25. It's a bit iffy IMO to expect people that have already purchased the console to then go out and spend another chunk of cash on extra storage space.

Mario Oddesy is 5.6GB for the whole game. This is the third parties doing very little to no compression.

There's two issues here. One, is that there are no options bigger than 32GB so developers have to optimise games that are bigger than that and some might take the view it's easier to dump part of that on the user's memory card then it is to find ways of dropping it down.

However, I think the bigger problem is, to use the 32GB, Nintendo charge a premium which I have read is over $20 a card. 8gb is the sweet spot because apparently that is a similar cost to publishers as the Xbox/PS disc.

A disc solution just isn't really viable for the Switch so a proprietary solution was always going to be used. However, Nintendo are absolute kings of optimisation (Super Mario Odyessey is going to clock in at 5.7Gb) so it's fine for them. It is adding extra costs for third parties though and it seems like their response to this is to let people put a lot of their game on a micro SD card in the Switch. Not ideal.

So it looks like this is there as an Iwata tribute since he coded that game http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1435317

Reminds me of the Gamecube memory card situation, 1st party/exclusive games used hardly any, but some third party games, EA in particular used huge amounts.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

NBA is using a 5GB save file. What the hell!

Super Bomberman R is getting another free update, it features 3 new characters and a new 3 vs 3 team battle mode!

Impressed they have kept supporting this in all honesty but I'm happy they are

:o . This does sounds good, Milner:

A new Grand Prix mode has been announced with the game’s appearance on Tokyo Game Show. Fans can look forward to 3 vs. 3 team battles. There is also a new rule called “Crystal” and new characters with unique skill sets. Characters are from Rumble Roses (Reiko Hinomoto) and Zone of the Enders (Anubis, Jehuty).

The game was very bare bones for the asking price but Konami has done a nice job in updating it since.

A few GRcaders own this right? Maybe we can give this new mode a go? Get some regular games going on a Tuesday when Mario Kart moves to Monday

I like the sound of this. I have barely touched the game but a regular online session could be cool.

Digital Foundry DOOM analysis.

VERY impressive, even more so if you consider the Switch as the successor to the 3DS
