Eurogamer has given a right kicking to Capcom for it's Ultra Street Fighter II game on Switch. "Avoid" :o .

It does seem that some companies are looking to make a quick buck on Switch stuff... albeit I guess this happens with any new console.

Its got to be one of the most pointless games since Virtua Fighter on the Megadrive. Why did they think we wanted a new version of Streetfighter 2?

I'm surprised they didn't atleast try for SF2 & 3 double pack like back in the day. You could somewhat justify that high price tag then.

Don't care about price or value. It's Street Fighter & I want to beat up my friends. Still getting it.

Oh Christ I preordered this. Not only did I preorder it I paid in full £29.99 at grainger games to pick up on Friday. What the strawberry float was I thinking I don't even like fighting games I was just getting it for getting its sake. Cancelling and getting lego city instead.

A new version of SF2 for Switch would be fine...it just shouldn't cost more than £15.

Just read the Eurogamer review of SFII.

I wish they would leave it to the consumer to judge whether something is too expensive or not and just judge the actual game.

Probably one of the worst reviews I've ever read.

It is an interesting one, Andy, and Eurogamer has focused more on the pricing aspect than in most of their other reviews. But... Capcom does seem to be taking the mickey with the £35 price point. The game was released for a lot less then that back in 2008 on the 360. Similarly, Konami putting out Bomberman at £50 was ridiculous. It's price-gouging; albeit something that happens whenever a new console is released.

I would say value for money is a key thing to touch on in a review.

Yeah they're well within their rights to point out when they consider something to be overpriced. A review is an opinion piece after all so if the opinion of the reviewer is that it costs too much then that should be mentioned. Any other product review will mention price if its pertinent, charging £35 for a 20 year old game is certainly something that should be mentioned. If you wish to disregard that and pay that price then you are free to do so, much in the same way you are free to dismiss any other parts of a review if you wish, but you not liking its presence doesn't make it a valid discussion point.

The problem is, it's value for money tied to a price tag. The review doesn't function in the same way should it get some price cuts. I know it's on a Nintendo console so it will be full price until the End of Days, but most other games quickly drop below £20 or even below a tenner. Basing your judgements largely against the games' RRP isn't the best way to write a critical opinion piece. I know they their price points are lower, but you can't imagine someone writing a review for a book, an album or a movie the same way.

If it's a gooseberry fool game, no price tag should be able to save it, either.

I love Streetfighter II, but surely, SURELY - even £15 for that game is grossly overpriced, never mind £35!

I think the review mentioning it is absolutely paramount, in the same way it should mention connectivity issues. I have absolutely no issue with it, if they think its unfair, maybe they shouldnt have made the game!

I think the solution is to give a review score for the game along with a separate price that the reviewer judges to be worth buying in at.

So for instance if you have an amazing 2 hour long game, a reviewer might give it 9/10 but suggest it's only worth £5.

Then you end up with a silly sliding scale like:

£40 4/10
£25 7/10
£15 8/10
£5 MUST BUY

Judge a game on its own merits, not on how it measures up against its price tag. No other medium is judge this way. You don't get someone slating a book because it was only 300 pages and cost them £16.

According to the CEO of Capcom, support of the Switch will be somewhat dependent on the success of Street Fighter 2 on the system.

Bodes well...

You would if it was the same book they read 25 years ago, but with a fancy new cover.

I don't see what you're saying or how it follows here at all. The whole point is that the price and score are entirely disassociated

I've read plenty of film reviews that suggest a film is okay but not worth the price of admission

So they're following the EA line of "if customers don't buy these old games for top dollar than we won't support the system". Another "special relationship" :fp: .

Capcom has form here though; didn't they release Resident Evil 2 and 3 on GameCube for £35 in 2003? Which would mean 3 was actually retailing for more than when it launched on PSone in 2000 (£29.99).
