Would like to play cave story again but on Switch. Forgot it was out this week - only it isn't. Nevermind, been having small sessions with Arms, I'm not very good at it but it's a lot of fun, I hope they keep up with some more content over the coming months.

These games are all a bit pricey though, aren't they. Is £60 really going to be the new norm???

I don't think you should be paying £60... but I agree the prices are too high right now. £40+ for ARMS? £50 for Pokken? Hmm, no thanks.

Nintendo kindly sent me a notice re their E3 sale the other week. I noticed that one of the games they were advertising was Yoshi's Wooly World, (WiiU). Went to digital shop. Sale price £40-00! Dear Nintendo I'm really not sure you understand the concept of 'Sale'!
No buy.

And another Switch Squad welcome! The RRP for Switch games is often sixty quid, 'Quake, but thankfully most retailers sell them for less than that. It's a bit like with PS4 / XBO where the RRP is fifty-five quid. Personally I have paid around £40 for the few Switch games that I have picked up. Hopefully the pricing will settle down a bit as the Switch becomes "less new"!

Around £40 is about right I think, you'll need to shop around and make best use of deals to get that price, but it has been possible on all major releases to this point.

I haven't paid over £40 for a game yet. Got Zelda for £36 and Mario Kart for £39.99 from Amazon and Splatoon 2 preordered for £39.85 from Simply Games thanks to discount codes.

The Pro Controller is a lovely bit of kit but, at around £58, it is quite pricey. If you're looking for a cheaper alternative, Hori's wired controller is up for pre-order at Amazon for £27.

It's a wired controller rather than the Pro's wireless style, but it looks pretty neat and, if you're gonna be sitting near your Switch cradle when using it, this could be a decent option.

Fortune telling time, I want to get a switch and mario for christmas. If the stock and demand issue is still around by then, should I be looking to preorder a console around september?

That's pretty hard to predict, Ad. I'd imagine that the Switch will be pretty popular at Christmas... but consoles will probably be in demand during September and October, too, in readiness for the launch of Mario Odyssey. Then again, perhaps the system will have fallen out of favour and we'll all be posting "Switch has no gaems!" here ;) .

Cheers Jawa. First world problems and that but ideally I don't want the switch until Christmas day along with Mario for maximum feels. Guess I'll wait and see, probably get my Mrs to order it and just hide it from me until then.

I've had my Switch for two months this weekend :o . It feels like a great time to update to my personal list of positives and negatives about the system.

+ Good hardware: nice design, high quality build, excellent screen, lovely Pro Controller
+ The switch between TV and portable play works so well!
+ Good range of games: Breath of the Wild, Kart Deluxe, Disgaea 5, ARMS....
+ ...with Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey, Skyrim and Fire Emblem Warriors coming before Christmas
+ The system user interface is slick and super swift

- Poor hardware: The dock is pretty low quality in terms of build. I'd prefer far better storage conditions for that lovely screen
- The cool startup sequence only appears the first time you ever boot the machine. Huh?!? All advertising is built around that "click" sound and yet you only hear it once!
- Looking at my 3DS we have themes, music, Badge Arcade, Streetpass, folders, AR Games, Swapdoodle, internet access, game notes function and the magnificent Miiverse. On Switch we have... virtually nothing. I am amazed that, four months after the system launched, the "non-gaming" functionality is so limited. You literally cannot communicate with your friends in any way!

I really like the system; it offers something different with the TV / portable play options and it has some great games. I just wish Nintendo were moving a lot quicker with bringing in the friends / comms software.

It doesn't look like you are ever going to be able to do that stuff actually on your Switch either.

I guess we have to give Nintendo the opportunity of showing their new comms app(s) and approach them with an open, positive mind... but I'm nervous that they're closing the door on many of the features offered on their Wii, 3DS and Wii U systems. I wonder when we're gonna find out more? As Hori's headset is launching on 21 July alongside Splatoon 2, I'd assume that the comms app will also be released for that time.

Whatever kind of approach you have to what Nintendo are doing on Switch, the fact is none of that communications stuff is going to be actually on Switch, you'll always need some other device to make use of any of it by the looks of it.

I can't see it being anything other than a fiddly mess, even if it works perfectly, the fact it requires another device means that its never going to be ideal.

I, too, fear that could be the case, HSH. But, historically, Nintendo has been good on this. Although many folk shout that "Nintendo is no good at online", innovative ideas like Channels (Wii), Streetpass gaming, Badge Arcade and Swapdoodle (3DS), and Miiverse (Wii U) demonstrates that Nintendo can do these things with a stylish twist. I hope that the app will offer something similar to Miiverse in terms of functionality... although I wish it would be on the console itself.

So my first day of the switch. It's a bit good isn't it?

Easy set up. Good controls, lovely screen and the ability to jump from screen to portable is amazing. Showed this off today and it massively impressed.

Very happy with my purchase

Lego City Undercover doesn't support single joycons, so if you want to play two player you need another controller. Just in case you're planning on getting that

Thanks, I was thinking about it. A company had it for £19.99 but has sold out so it's put me off a little. Having to fork out more for the game and then for an extra controller doesn't seem worth it now.

For those wanting it now, my local big Sainsbury's had both skus of the switch in stock to pick up and buy there and then. Is just had an Argos open in it so that may be how they have stock. Worth checking larger (as in the shop larger) ones if you're wanting a switch.
