Essentially it's a tactics game (like Final Fantasy Tactics) but it's entirely about min/max mechanics and grinding. There is a main story and you'll likely complete that within 15-20 hours if you rush but that is only the tip of the iceberg. Like in any other tactics game there are a series of story levels (which you can rinse and repeat if you want) but every single item also contains levels called the item world (the number of levels is dependant on the item's rarity) these range from 30 up to 250. And every time you complete a level (they're very short) then the item also levels up. You can then equip that item on your character and go into another item world ad infinitum. And while you're doing this your character is also levelling up. Oh and each level has coloured flooring that adds different modifiers (some inc. exp, so make spells not work etc). And you can throw coloured blocks at them to make them change colour (after breaking the block). And then that chains into massive combos so you can clear a level without even attacking someone. And then pirates turn up who'll mostly kick your arse.

I absolutely adore Disgaea games. It's one of the reasons I'll be picking up a Switch along with Stardew Valley. If they made Disgaea 5 for Vita then I'd be all over that.

A green-and-pink-and-splatted controller sounds atrocious... but there's something about this that just works :shifty: .

They should have gone with a fully Black controller and have the neon paint splats all over it.l

On paper it shouldn't work... but I quite like it!

There is also going to be a set of Splatoon joy-con released (left green, right pink) and they look kinda neat, too. Oddly, the Japanese Splatoon 2 console pack will get this design included but the European version will get the neon blue / red controllers instead. The Splatoon-coloured versions will then arrive here in the autumn.

Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack coming to Switch

The Azure Striker Gunvolt Striker Pack contains both Azure Striker Gunvolt and Azure Striker Gunvolt 2, two of our flagship games that originally made their home on the Nintendo 3DS. With the release of the Switch version of the Striker Pack, there are a host of new features, improvements, and bonus content that make it the truly complete version of the Azure Striker Gunvolt experience. Let’s take a look at what’s in store!

Never played any of the Gunvolts on 3DS so I'll be in for this, hopefully it will get a physical release as well.

I've not played it before either, Milner. It looks pretty neat although it does have the appearance of a game designed for the 3DS' smaller screens(s).

I haven't heard of this before, but Nine Parchments looks cool. It is being made by Frozenbyte, the team behind the Trine games.

I've had my Switch for three weeks today. So.. what is my current thinking about the Switch?

+ I really enjoy being able to play both on my TV and in portable mode; it's more useful than I had expected and the ease of "switching" is fantastic
+ I like using both the joy-con and the Pro Controller. My preference is to use the joy-con for portable mode and the Pro Controller with the TV; but both are comfortable and work well
+ Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is excellent. As an owner of the Wii U version I was dubious about getting it again, but it's a terrific package; the new Battle mode, DLC inclusion and improved 1080p display output are lovely
+ Zelda... just! It does run slightly smoother than the U version but there isn't a lot in it. Still a terrific game, though. Even though I have barely played it
+ The system software works really quickly...
- ...but that is because it is stunningly basic:
> The console desperately needs some form of user communication! You can make friends but there is barely any purpose for doing so at the moment. I have been playing some Kart tournaments on my Switch... arranging them via comms on the Wii U and then messaging folk about the results on the U afterwards :fp:
> The eShop isn't anything like as attractive as the U version. It can get away with it at the moment because there isn't much in it, but I'd imagine enhancements must be in progress
> Why have we got Nintendo Accounts, NNIDs, Switch IDs and Friend Codes? It's an absolute spaghetti junction of identities and passwords. Once you're setup it's straight-forward, but it is still messy behind the scenes
> Why is MyNintendo not integrated into the Switch?

Overall, I'm glad to have jumped on board and I love using the console. I just hope the system software enhancements arrive sooner rather than later.
