strawberry float though, it could integrate with a Labo-style game board.

It could use the IR stuff to 'know' when certain things happened in the game space.

This needs to happen.

Surprised this hasn't been posted yet....

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digi ... t-analysis

So basically the Switch is wide-open for emulation, homebrew, custom firmware, piracy and people modding games (So online cheaters), and Nintendo have very little they can do at this point to stop it because it's a security vulnerability within the Tegra chip.

Ah well. Might buy another at some point in the future and turn my launch unit into a handheld emulation powerhouse.

Won't lie, I'm a bit uneasy about this...really hope we don't see rampant piracy or hackers in online matches. Though I've used homebrew on systems before and love the opportunities it allows, I'd rather it come near the end of a system's lifespan or even later.

The DS was the easiest thing to pirate and it didn't stop that from doing ridiculously well

I guess that online matches are the biggest worry, but are cheaters that big of a problem in most games?

Oh dear. This could be quite damaging for Switch, particularly in regards to third party support.

Didn't Mario Kart DS have issues with cheaters?

Certainly I'm sure I heard issues with people playing modded copies of Pokémon to cheat online.

It's not going to harm hardware sales at all (Hell it'll probably encourage more of them) but it's a worry for 3rd party software, Nintendo software, Indies and anyone putting out any kind of online game.

It's especially annoying that they've not even properly launched their Online Service and already we're concerned about cheats.

I concur that I would have preferred to see this come later in the systems life.

Piracy is often attributed to the DS's rapidly declining software sales around 2010ish, hard to prove obviously but it wouldn't surprise me if it was a contributing factor given the proliferation of R4 esque cards. Often seen as the reason PSP software sales were proportionally low to hardware too. Might be overworrying but I really hope third parties don't get cold feet because of it here :/

And I know quite a few DS and Wii games could have issues with hackers, though mileage would vary of course. Funnily enough, once on Mario Kart DS I played one of the offline tracks online thanks to a hacker ha.

What a heinous lie! You'll find no evidence of such shenanigans on my Switch:

I know Wii did people would win races by crossing the start line to start the race, some would just do infinite stars etc.

I never had a problem with MKDS cheating

because my copy running on my M3 meant the online games were sparsely populated as it was

Any prices online for Wolfenstein II yet? Would be nice to find it around the £40 mark that Doom was pitched.

It looks like it's going to be about £43 if you get it from the South African eShop.

Not sure what to make of the vulnerability discovered in the Switch Tegra chip, but I find it hard to believe there would be nothing that they could do to prevent it or limit the impact. Time will tell I guess.

How are you finding it?

Reasonably intuitive - if a little overwhelming... Gameplay wise, I don't know how to turn around bad form. The injury RNG in particular seems very cruel.

You weren’t joking. In the space of 4 days I’ve lost Sanchez (top scorer and creator in my team) for 6 months with a broken leg, Mata for 3 months with a hip injury and Blind for 8 weeks with ligament damage. And those are just additions to an already lengthy injury list! :x

Such an amazingly addictive game though, always end up playing just one more match

Just spotted the hacking stuff

Depending on how widespread the hack becomes, I'm guessing it could bring the Switch 2 forward by a year or two. Can't see Ninty making a Switch lite/Pro if it goes the way of the PSP, and going bigger on a Switch 2 with newer parts without this flaw but being completely backwards compatible seems like a better option.

Edit- Not going to lie, I'm still incredibly excited by the possibilities, but would much rather it came another couple of years down the line.

I'd imagine this could stop plans for cloud saves, etc. though

Edit 2- Now I'm all excited and thinking about portable Gamecube emulation, portable Sunshine and Chibi-Robo

Is it really such a big deal? I don't think Nintendo will let a small group of ultradorks (I use the term in endearment, as a fellow ultradork) running Linux or cheat engines alter any of their plans.

PC is an infinitely moddable platform and it has reasonable anticheat & DRM systems. If they were relying on the sanctity of the hardware to do those jobs then they needed to up their game anyway (people could have still potentially cheated by meddling with how the Switch connects to the Internet, etc.).
