Its weird, i'm looking forward to it but its probably the least i've been hyped for a Nintendo console.
I think I'm definitely more hyped than I remember being with the Wii U and possibly even the Wii, although nothing will surpass the Gamecube excitement.
For me I'm excited most about the hardware itself, the Switch is basically the console I've wanted since I was a kid a kid. I remember longing to play Super Mario Land 2 and Pokemon Red on my TV back when I had a game boy, they were experiences I couldn't have on my TV (I didn't have a SNES or Super Game Boy!) and I was desperate to play them on a bigger screen rather than squinting at the Game Boy screen when I was at home.
Times have obviously moved on and handhelds are much better for long term play, even at home. However as recently as last year when I was playing Majora's Mask and Pokemon Sun I was longing to be able to continue them on my TV with a proper controller.
I still love handheld systems but I never seem to get enough time to really make the most of them these days, I don't commute or even travel that much and if I'm not at home I don't tend to be in a situation where I'm using a handheld that often. Most of the time I spend playing it is in bed, if I'm still awake but my girlfriend is sleeping and I know putting the TV on will wake her up. It means that generally I end up starting games on the handheld but I either don't end up finishing them or it takes a really long time as I play them so sporadically.
The Switch gives me that perfect middle ground, I can play it in handheld mode when I'm in bed (or on the rare occasions I travel and am not driving), use it when someone else is using the main TV (like I do with the Wii U) but also plug it in for that big screen experience.
I also love the look of the hardware, it is a fantastic looking device and particularly striking in Neon. The interface and UI looks far superior to the Wii/Wii U/3DS and the controller options are excellent. The price is also perfectly reasonable for me, even if some of the accessories do seem a little on the steep end.
Power wise I know some aren't all that impressed but it looks just fine for me, I'm more interested in the game play and Nintendo always have fantastic art direction. As long as its HD and the image looks nice and sharp then there'll be no complaints from me.
Of course, being able to play Zelda and the prospect of the likes of Mario Odyssey helps as well!
