What’s the thinking with physical vs download? I’ve been download only this gen (PS4 and Vita), but would go physical for the main 1st party stuff if there was a benefit to doing so. Are there any performance differences between download and carts?

I think Digital Foundry did an article on this a while back - the outcome seemed to be that there's not much in it but generally games downloaded to the internal storage are actually faster than carts and those out on an SD card.

EDIT: Found it - https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&sourc ... Lw&ampcf=1

New system update is available to download adding 2 big features

- Transfer saves and profiles to other systems

- Video capture enabled for certain games

I know many were hoping for the transfer of saves feature so it’s good to see they are getting Switch to where it needs to be

Yeah, a few nice features. The system transfer facility works as per the 3DS and Wii U approaches which means everything is transferred to another console; still can’t use multiple consoles.

Video capture is cool although thirty seconds is pretty short - I guess this is due to the lack of storage space - and it seems that game code has to be updated to support this feature. Even so, it’ll be nice for posting clips of, say, the GRcade Mario Kart night to Twitter :) .

Good start in the right direction with this update. Hopefully the short recording is addressed in a future update with the choice of saving them to the micro sd storage. Been a controller update too not sure what that ones for though.

I do have next Friday and the following week off work.

You'll be a lucky man to get a good BF deal, they're pretty rare nowadays.

Can someone remind me how bad Nintendo's digital policy is? I've bought a 128GB SD to go digital only on the basis that it's no less secure than having physical copies and I don't care about trading games in.

You can re-download games whenever you want and perform a system transfer to move everything over to another console. However, unlike, say, the PS4, you can’t store games on - or login to - more than one console at a time.

Thanks Jawa, essentially then if you don't live in some highfalutin world of multiple Switches you're good to guy.

I'm sure you said that game saves will transfer from physical to digital?

I believe so, Hime, although I haven’t tried it myself. All game save data is stored in the Switch’s internal memory (i.e. the 32Gb built-in; not on the game card or on the micro SD card).

Does anyone know what the controller update does? Is it worth doing?

Grrr....

On topic. I've done a quick search and no-one seems to know what has changed. Nintendo haven't released any info. It's a mystery. (NO Toyah Wilcox please.)

Fire Emblem Warriors arrived today from Simply Games. :D Sadly it's going away for Christmas. It was either that, Mario or Xenoblade... Not entirely sure I made the right decision, but I'm not sure I could wait for Mario, no matter how special it would be on Christmas Day, and I'm getting the LE for Xenoblade, and would feel a bit shady getting that gifted.

I have updated my controllers.

It does the red one first, then the blue one. (Or the black one then the other black one if you are a bit boring.....) The red one takes quite a bit longer to update than the blue one.

Nothing at all seems to have changed..... Mmm.

If you want to get one, it'll probably be better to organise it now rather than wait for the day Odyssey releases. They're in stock at most places at the moment, including at Amazon.

On my system the blue one updated first... and, as you say, the red one took longer!*. It could be because the red (right) one has the infra-red sensor built in?

* Did you buy the red/blue joy-con separately, still, or did they come with the neon console? Only checking because the colours are the opposite way around depending on how you bought them!
