Can someone explain something to me, which I really don't understand.

Why on earth is there a difference in performance between handheld and docked mode? Surely all the hardware is in the system, not the dock? Surely it should be identical on the handheld? It doesn't make sense...

Mainly down to power consumption. Handheld mode lowers the clock speeds so it draws less power to improve battery life. When docked its connected to a power supply.

Thanks - that makes sense. So basically handheld mode could be identical, but it would drain the battery much faster...

I think generally they target higher res when docked, say 1080p then 720p when in handheld which in theory should offset the slight drop in power when undocked.

The screen is only 720p so no need to render 1080p when not docked.. doesn't necessarily apply to all games but I think most games even if they're not full 1080p will run higher when docked (maybe 900p docked, and sub 720p when undocked etc..).

Noticed with WWE 2k18, whilst it's pretty terrible either way it looks worse when docked (jaggies show up more on bigger screen) but performance seems marginally better so I guess they don't bump up the res when docked so the extra power helps the framerate slightly at the expense of a worse image so guess it's upto developers how they use the slight power bump when it's docked.

I do wonder, if you have it undocked but plugged into the mains if the higher CPU speed would kick in so you could maybe have better frame rates whilst in handheld mode for example..

Sorry if it's been asked, but where is the best deal for a Switch and Mario at present? It's I think 320 quid on Amazon. I've not got a console in a long time so probably have missed a more specialised store with better deals. Ta

Kind of. Its a bit more complex as you've also got heat to consider.

Sandy, you can get it cheaper by buying the console and the game separately i.e. not in that pack. The pack version includes a download code rather than a cart version, too.

This Tesco Direct Deal is cool - the console plus Mario Odyssey plus Mario + Rabbids for £319. The offer ends today, though.

Edit: Sorry, man - it has gone out of stock now :( .

Edit 2: Console plus Odyssey is £320 at game.co.uk and £321 at Amazon.

Damn you! Cheers though, I'll have a little look around. Didn't even think of Tesco

A new sale launches in the eShop today with offers including SteamWorld Dig 2 £10.99, Mario + Rabbids £33.32, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove £17.99, PuyoPuyo Tetris £24.49, Mummy Demastered £12.59, Yono The Celestial Elephant £10.99 and Namco Museum £14.99. Rocket League is discounted, too, but as I have that I cannot see the price.

I'm tempted by Shovel Treas Tro'...

I was unsure about it at the launch price but this feels a bit more reasonable. I believe it's a pretty short game... but you reckon it's worth it, Orange?

Some good deals there - I too am tempted by Shovel Knight...

If folks are open to region shopping:

Treasure Trove is £14.30 (JAPAN)
PuyoPuyo is £22.27 (MEXICO)
Yono The Celestial Elephant £10.10 (MEXICO)

The rest look cheaper from the UK at these prices.

It's still a little steep given how short the game is to be honest. It's an easy but fun and memorable zelda-lite.

Thanks for the info, dude. With xmas expenditure, I think this is a game that'll I'll hold off from until it's a wee bit cheaper.

Hovered over it a few times but not quite gone for it.

For payment, do you just add card details via the Switch? I've not bought anything directly off it yet. In fact, I don't think I ever did on the Wii, either.

Yeah, you can tap in your card details or, if you prefer, use PayPal.
