It has to be that way so that either strap can attach to either joycon. They are, however, clearly marked so that the + and - signs align with those on the joycon.

If the joycons and adapters were actually symmetrical you wouldn't have a "wrong way round" anyway. It's a console for children, which they've thought about with the horrible tasting cartridges but they haven't when it comes to the actual design of the system.

Is that the reason why? Pretty good idea, if true. Those cartridges are definitely a choking hazard for little'ns.

It's a console for all ages.

Eeeee, just got my Switch!

Few questions.

Is it supposed to feel so loose/insecure in the dock? I'd imagined it would've clicked into place somehow, but it seems to just sort of rest there and move around a little bit.

Am I right in thinking that the only way to charge the joycons out of the box is to connect them up to the side of the switch itself whilst it's in the dock? I believe there's a joy con charging grip available but that's sold separately yes?

On the one hand I'd be up for double dipping on Stick of Truth for the Switch.

On the other hand, Europe will probably get a censored version aga

As Gario has proven, any age can assemble something the wrong way round if it's possible to do so.

Um, I don't think symmetry would be possible? The way the console is designed for the joycon to slide onto the switch from the top down with a (satisfying) 'click' (that also displays on-screen  ), means that the wrist straps have to follow the same convention when being applied to the joycon, necessitating the need for the wrist straps to have a 'top' and 'bottom', without which they could not click into place... I think?

For what it's worth, I explained the system to my five year old and he hasn't had any problems with it... although he has dropped the thing more than once :dread:

That excuse is quite laughable!

Good thing it's not got a glass screen ;)

I meant more the layout of the controllers. Because the two controllers placed side by side have the stick and buttons in a slightly different position the shoulder buttons and battery indicator lights are also in a different position which then requires the wrist strap to have a right and a wrong way around. If the layout of the controllers were the same (so the shoulder buttons and battery lights were in the same place on both joycons) it wouldn't matter which way around you slid the wrist strap on.

I actually think the European version turned out funnier due to how they approached the censorship issues...

Just given Bomberman a go.
It's really fun, but the Joycons definitely aren't suited for it due to the lack of a proper D-Pad. Definitely a good Pro Controller candidate.
Might have to get one ordered as I don't find the joycon grip particularly comfortable to hold for long periods of time.

That left "d-pad" is my one complaint with the controllers out of the box. I understand the need for them to be symmetrical, but Nintendo d-pads are the best in the business and you feel the difference without one.

In docked mode, it'll eventually be negated when I buy a pro controller over the next month or so.

But what with a lot of indie games coming to the system and a lot of them being 2D, it's a shame we don't get one in portable mode either. Personally, I'm going to be using docked mode more for "proper" home console games like Zelda and portable mode for indie games or stuff that I would usually play on my Vita or 3DS.

I am with you, I desperately want a left joycon with a dpad and am hoping they eventually release one.

That said...I've played much of Blaster Master Zero and I've been surprised how usable the four direction buttons are in it, to the extent I'm using them more than the analog stick. Perhaps it's their close proximity to each other, but I find it surprisingly intuitive to change directions on them; even for diagonals!

Is some relief at least for playing certain kinds of 2D games on it, though I imagine certain genres (fighters) still won't be ideal.

Bit annoyed that my Tempered Glass screen protectors, ordered on the 6th, haven't turned up yet. Amazon said they were due yesterday but still no sign.

Initially, mine were quite drastically oversized, as though they had measured the dimensions from an online image and cocked it up. Then about a week later, I was surprised to receive a second batch that fit perfectly.
I've since bizarrely received a third batch that I can post to you if you send me a stamped addressed envelope...

Incidentally, what's Blaster Master like? Wasn't interested when I saw the video in the eShop but apparently it's a Metroidvania? Seen a few decent reviews.

I ordered mine on the 6th too and they haven't arrived either. They were dispatched on the 7th and today was the last day of the estimated delivery date. Looking at the feedback of the seller, it seems that a load of other people haven't received their's either.
